  1. Thank you so much for this information, it is helpful! ? No worries about not knowing the exact calculation of hours, I am sure it differs each year. I remember when I contacted the department they told me that they equally weigh each section of the application such as: GPA, hours in the field, written statement, and references. Hopefully that is the case this application round. Best of luck to you too! Congrats on getting into U of T!!! Very exciting!
  2. Hello everyone! For those who got into Laurier's Advanced Standing in-person or online MSW Programs (for Spring 2019 or prior) what was your GPA and how many hours in the field did you have? Thank you very much!!
  3. I appreciate you looking into this for me. Thank you so much for this valuable information! Do you by chance know how many hours would be considered for 3.6 years of experience? I have a total of 4515 hours of volunteer, summer work, and placement experiences. Thanks!!
  4. If possible, would you mind sharing what Laurier's averages of last year's applicants were for the Advanced Standing MSW? Thank you so much!
  5. On last year's forum people found out they got into Laurier starting on February 26. Not sure exactly when they're going to give acceptances this year, however, when I emailed Laurier earlier this month they said late February/early March.
  6. My pleasure! You have contributed a lot to the field so I don't see a reason why they wouldn't accept you. There is still hope for you to be accepted to U of T. Today was only the first day they sent out acceptances. I really hope you hear soon from U of T and Ryerson! I applied to York and Laurier's Advanced Standing MSW Programs.
  7. Your experience is absolutely phenomenal!! Congrats on all you achieved! ?
  8. The last time I emailed Laurier, they told me that advanced standing applicants would be notified late February/early March. Hopefully by next week we'll know!
  9. Congratulations on getting into Laurier!! ? You have contributed so much to the field!!
  10. Thank you so much for your encouragement! I hope you get in as well. All the best!! ?
  11. You have an abundance of amazing experience! Congrats on getting into Laurier!! It is well deserved! ?
  12. Wow, that is incredible!!! Congrats on all you accomplished! ?
  13. Hello! I applied to Laurier's and York's Advanced Standing MSW Programs. I am currently awaiting to hear whether I am accepted or declined. Schools/GPA: -BSW, York University (7.67 B+, almost an 80% GPA) -SSW, Sheridan College (4.0) Experience: 4’515 hours of volunteer, placement, and work experience with people with disabilities, children, youth, and families. -Placements: -700-hour BSW Placement in the Employment Department of a disability agency. -600-hour SSW Placement at a day program for adults with disabilities, dual diagnosis, and mental health. -Summer Work: Provided support to children and youth with intellectual disabilities with recreational programming, volunteering/job coaching, transit training, and at summer camps. -Volunteering: Adult disability programs; elementary and high school classes/special education programming; childcare centre; social justice committee member; SSW alumni panel guest speaker. References: BSW Professor, SSW Professor, Manager of Volunteer/Student Services from a disability agency Written Statement: Focused on clinical and social justice practices for people with disabilities and mental health I'm aware that many applicants have stronger applications than mine (as they have higher GPA's and more work experience than myself), but I am hopeful that my overall application and my experiences are what they are looking for!
  14. Thank you so much for this information! I greatly appreciate it!
  15. For those who were accepted to Laurier's MSW programs, did they send an official letter in the mail after sending an email of acceptance? Thanks.
  16. Hello Everyone! Is anyone aware of when Laurier and York would notify applicants if they have received entrance into their Advanced Standing MSW Program for September 2019? When I last contacted both schools Laurier told me that they are hoping to give out acceptances late February/early March, and York told me they give out acceptances in April/May. Has anyone else heard something different? Thank you.
  17. Thanks for the information! Best of luck too!
  18. I have applied to York's Advanced Standing MSW for September 2019. From what I have heard, it is very competitive as they are one of the only schools that I'm aware of that gives all their students a fellowship which covers most of tuition fees. They usually accept 40 people in the Advanced Standing MSW and 20 people in the two year MSW for those without a BSW. York is focused on Critical Social Work and they are usually more interested in applicants whose applications are more geared to social justice, research, advocacy, and Critical Social Work theories. I'm not too sure about Ryerson, but I have heard they roughly accept the same number of people as York. Even though York is very competitive, I have heard U of T is even more competitive. U of T always has the most applicants as their MSW programs attract more people who are interested in Clinical Social Work.
  19. Thank you so much! Best of luck to you as well. I'm hoping Laurier would send out their acceptances next month for the in-person Advanced Standing MSW.
  20. Hello Everyone, For those who got accepted into Laurier's online MSW program, when is the deadline to accept/decline? Is anyone aware of when Laurier offered admissions to Advanced Standing applicants with a BSW last year? A few weeks ago I heard that Advanced Standing applicants would find out late February/early March if they're accepted. Hopefully we hear soon! Thank you very much!
  21. Thank you for the information!
  22. Congrats to everyone that got into Laurier's Online MSW Program! For those who accepted, did Laurier state the types of scholarships and/or funding a candidate could receive? Thanks!
  23. Sorry to hear that happened, but congrats on getting into the part-time online MSW program.
  24. Congratulations, that is an incredible accomplishment! It's remarkable you found out so early! When I emailed Laurier on December 11th, they told me that they hoped to have all final decisions made by mid-March. Are you aware if they give out many acceptances in January and/or February as well?
  25. Hello Everyone, I am a BSW student at York University with a SSW diploma from Sheridan College. I have applied for the advanced standing MSW programs at York and Laurier.
