I also thought those were Skype interviews and then there would be an additional onsite interview (personally didn't get one but that's been the trend according to some of the grad students in my lab). Someone mentioned that POIs had to let the admissions committee by 1/28 (yesterday) about the candidates they interviewed so I don't think they sent out their onsite ones yet?

For funding for the trip, you would likely have to contact a director of graduate studies, and they will be able to tell you how much they are willing to fund. I guess the visa is also really hard, and if that's the case, it's hard to say whether you will be able to visit. :/ I don't think you'd be automatically supervised by him, and you're probably still welcome to do lab rotations. You ultimately declare who you want to be your advisor (as long as it's mutual).

I think it's early. If I'm being honest, as much as love their orthopaedic and imaging based research, the stories I've heard from the lab I work in about Stanford (sad students, restructuring - more of a rumor, idk how true it is) have definitely turned me off. So even if I got an invite, I'm not sure how much I would commit.
