Oh, because we've been maintaining such high comedic standards on the board thus far.
-
Second-year grad student here -- I've paid my taxes twice. Tuition remission is not taxed. Stipend is. Refund check is nice. Me no like big sentence.
-
He was at Michigan for a long time, yeah, but he went to Maryland in 2005 or so. Did great work at UM though. I don't know the degree to which he was involved with their training, but he was at least nominally involved with my favorite cohort in poli sci history: Dan Reiter, Allan Stam, Chris Gelpi, Scott Bennett, Scott Gartner, although Axelrod and Organski probably played a teeny tiny role in things.
-
Hellz yeah! Maryland's got a sweet department. I heart Huth.
-
Oh man, Duke is going to Yale people (myself included apparently). That is officially not nice. Applyyourself my ass!
-
Lost James Fearon, too. Just imagine an IR department of Mearsheimer, Walt, Snidal, Wendt, Fearon, Lipson, Glaser. Holy crap.
-
In theory, the NRC rankings should be out mid-February. Then again, they've been due -- in theory -- for about 18 months now.
-
Wow, kind of a busy day that felt slow. Congrats to the Penn and Chicago people! Serious high fives going around.
-
By the by, those of you planning to attend the interview weekend at Emory on the 27th: shoot me an IM. Might as well get some background info so we don't have to whisper "hey, are you coachrjc?" when we get there.
-
Not sure if there's an official ranking (IR hack here), but I do believe that judicial politics has its own thread on poliscijobrumors. You probably already know that. I will say that I've seen job talks from judicial people from WashU, Emory, Princeton, and Columbia. The WashU talks were good, and the Princeton talk was probably the best I've seen in my time in academia. Funny story behind that one if you want to IM - judicial politics is such a strange little network with odd dynamics...

I'm tempted to, but I also don't intend to jerk anybody around unnecessarily, particularly because you never know when you'll need a favor (or a job for that matter). But I'm making at least four visits thus far...anything's better than Lansing, anyway!
-
As per an email this afternoon, it's fixin' to be a business casual type of day. Helllllllllls yeah.
-
6-9 students? Yowza! Gotta love the economy, huh?
-
As an olive branch to the theorists, I vote that we rename the thread "Thegradcafe as a Vocation." It's been, what, twenty years since anybody stole Weber's line?
-
Nothing from Duke here -- assuming that's not good news, but who knows? Best of luck.
-
There are 130 people in the world that want to study comparative politics?!? WHAT?! And then, the sharks...
-
You're in -- high five.
-
Funk dat. I still predict happy things for you clowns today. EDIT: In my department, "clowns" is not meant to be pejorative but rather endearing. Don't be wishing any shark attacks on me, if you please! And good luck, of course.
-
No rejection for me yet, but looking forward to it. Congrats to the UCSD and NYU peeps! I can't go to a single freakin' class without major shit going down!
-
That was a nice game last night, by the way.
-
GO WHITE!
-
East Lansing -- Ann Arbor is way too cool for the likes of me!
-
I'm afraid not -- sure wish I was though! More like mid-Michigan.
-
We are so much more neurotic than last year's group. Those of you that live in driving distance should come to see my band play next Tuesday night. This means you, mormegil!

Premonition: Duke today. No inside info. Just a lot of bad dreams.
