The problem is that if you look at the sample curriculum / the FAQ on the department website, it actually runs year-round-- a total of eight quarters if you have a background (= ~$106k total at current tuition rates, assuming you pay full-time tuition during the externship+elective quarters).. In my case, I don't have a background, so it would have been 11 quarters total (= ~$146k). I think NU's program is fantastic and I love Chicago / like Evanston, and were money an unlimited resource, NU totally would have been my dream school on every level.. For better or worse, though, even with a nice scholarship offered, I just couldn't wrap my head around the level of debt that would saddle with me-- I have a hard time imagining it's really worth it, personally speaking, anyway. (This said, while I'm happy with where I've decided to enroll at, it still sucked to turn Northwestern down. Such is life, though.)

I am too! My train from Toronto leaves bright and early in the morning (ew). I'm really hoping that I like what we see tomorrow-- I have it narrowed down to either Syracuse or MGH, and since I'm originally from CNY, there are many aspects of SU that make a lot of sense for me, but then again, I'm also originally from CNY, you know? I'd really appreciate some, like, tipping point bit of information-- whether a financial offer or a really good experience tomorrow or whatever-- that hints at what the right decision might be. How are you finding this whole process?

I know there a few other people who applied to Syracuse here, though who knows if any of you are still reading the thread-- anyway, has anyone heard anything regarding merit awards? On a different note, I hope everyone has a good weekend visiting schools (or doing whatever you're doing if you aren't attending any open houses)-- seems like lots are being held over the next few days! Poor timing personally, given my term ends next week and I'm buried in schoolwork, but such is life.

I think that will end up being the reason that I'll likely end up turning down MGH myself-- the tuition is slightly cheaper than the school I'm leaning towards right now (SU), but WOW is Boston expensive. (And, like, I live in downtown Toronto currently-- not exactly cheap living here, either, but seemingly worlds less expensive than even suburban Boston.) On that note, anyone know much about Syracuse's department?

This is probably a long shot, since I think most posters here are American, but is anyone still waiting on a response from McGill? I see a few people have been rejected on the survey pages, but I've just heard zero either way, which is odd (totally expecting a rejection myself, frankly). My application has been 'ready for review' foreverrrr.

So, I can't remember if there are any other applicants to UVM, but it looks like another program has been hit by CSDCAS problems-- just got an email from them stating that their admissions timeline has been pushed back to between 3/21 and 3/28 (this being from an original date of 2/28!). I get why the idea of a centralized application service sounds nice, but it just so, so isn't in reality.

I had an interview for Syracuse this afternoon (via phone), and it was honestly pretty low stress-- not that that kept me from being super nervous, naturally. Anyway, it was ~13m long, and probably 2/3 of the time was just spent answering the questions I had. I'm an out-of-field student too, so she asked me why SLP (which I had expected) and what educational experience I've had that I thought would most prepare me for grad school (which I hadn't anticipated). I don't know how typical that sort of experience is, as this was the sole program I applied to that interviews. At any rate, I prepared by making a few lists of possible responses to various questions (e.g., why SU? why SLP?), re-reading my statement of purpose, and spending some time on the department's website beforehand so that I could be specific about their particular program as necessary, given it's been a while now since applications were due.
