Does anyone know how waitlists really work? If you're on the waitlist, would a school tell you, or would they wait to see if a spot opens up for you and the offer admission? Very confused, very anxious to hear back

Besides the two posters on the results page -- has anyone else heard from Stanford? Did the person that said they'd get an official e-mail on "Monday" end up receiving it?
