I only get one PhD offer this year. It's a nice school. But only two assistant professors are doing the research I am interested in. They co-authored many working papers. However, one of them just had a paper retracted by a top journal, because the person misstated the research method and cannot provide the data and code to replicate the results. But he is still a faculty member, the retraction did not seem to influence him. If I accept the offer, it seems that my only option is to choose the prof who does not have retraction as my advisor. But what if she could not obtain tenure in future? Will the retraction of the faculty member influence my reputation and career, because we come from the same department and my advisor co-author with him a lot? Is it a good idea to go to this school?
