I'd argue, though, that the EPA also does not traditionally wait 18 months to announce who got the fellowship, so it seems like an exception in this case would be more than reasonable. Getting your reviews is not the same as getting recognized in a way that can go on your CV...

Hi there! I don't want to be a downer, but if you never heard back from them at all (via emails, letters, etc)... are you sure that your application was really received successfully? I imagine that you would have been contacted in some form by now if that were true. I have had no trouble hearing back from Brandon the couple of times I have tried. Maybe try from another email address or something in case you are getting filtered out of his inbox?

Probably another 16 months ;-)

Is this 'week' going to be like how we applied in September and were told we would hear about who won 'in June'... And then we heard nothing for 17 months ;-) I think the odds are good that I'll have graduated before we know anything, and I haven't yet started my third chapter. But in all seriousness, thank you to those who have been following up and keeping us posted. It's much appreciated :-)

That's awesome. Please keep up posted if you hear anything else. Thanks!

That's awesome. Thank you so much for asking them!

Hi there. Based on what? Is something budget/policy-relevant happening at the end of this month? I thought that the end of September was the most likely, and thus our applications for this year are probably already moot at this point. What I would love is if they would still 'award' the people who would have gotten it, even without the money. Better to have something to put on your CV versus the whole thing being a total waste.

Thanks! At least they responded...

Thanks for the update! Did you get any sense of the timing from her? Thanks!
-
@dubstep I'm in RI also (still nothing here as well, B2)! Glad we have concentrated all the crazy to one tiny little state :-)
-
Thanks for the update @dubstep! The real question is... is 'no news' still 'good news' or just that they are rejecting us slowly (and painfully)?
-
Has *anyone* heard good news or are highly ranked people basically being put on hold given the budget? I'm sure my rejection is en route in the mail :-)
-
What? Inconsistency in this application process? Inconceivable!! Haha, I guess maybe we will hear sometime before July, then?
-
Soooo... it's looking a lot like May 1st from here. Anything? Anyone?
-
Nothing here either (b2). Has anyone tried to contact the program? Any luck? For those who had advisors on review panels, could you pretty please ask them if they have any intel? Good luck everyone :-)

Iowaguy, It was my experience (and that of others I knew), that if a potential advisor wanted you but didn't have funding for you, then they will come right out and tell you that. Notification is typically sometime April-June, which is indeed too late for most schools. I don't get the impression that not bringing in funding typically hurts you in the admission process. Sure, its better if you're 'free' but most places will admit strong applicants either way. Some people pay their own way their first year, esp in master's programs, although obviously that isn't an option for everyone. It cant hurt to apply, and if anything it shows prospective advisors that (a.) you're serious about grad school, (b.) you can put together a competent application, and (c.) you can endure the hopeless tedium and terribly complicated instructions involved in this particular application. Since the odds of actually getting one are so low, I don't think anyone banks on getting these. Many people apply again in their first couple of years. Good luck, everybody! (Edited because it converted my "b" into a sweet smiley face with sunnies on.)

I inquired last week and was told it would open in 'a few days.' Also note that the undergrad RFP opened yesterday, so I suspect the STAR will follow shortly.
-
EPA is also open to more advanced students... a lot of people with a master's are ineligible for the NSF.

Hey guys! Still nothing here... and we are kidding ourselves if we think everyone in the B2 reject pile was a runner up. I suspect they just hadn't mailed any of them yet as no one seems to have gotten their rejection until very recently (no one in my department has yet even now). It's a bummer because I know I kept my hopes up! It would be SO great if they'd use an online system like others have suggested here so we aren't left hanging. Anyway though, in response to above, I know a bunch of people who have gotten it (including both last year and the year prior), and even two in my program just got it this year so definitely still worth applying. I don't think that the comment above is fair, sara_s. Basically it seems that you have to get all three as 'Excellent' to be considered because they get so many strong applicants, so a 'Very Good' just doesn't cut it. C'est la vie! Good luck next year, everyone! Thanks for all the updates!

Hey guys! There are 3 B2s in my department and none of us have heard anything yet. Have any climate change people gotten the call?
-
Hey all. Has anyone gotten *good* news yet? Or only rejections so far? Is it a good or bad thing if we haven't gotten anything yet?
-
...THIS. Seriously. I'm trying to limit myself to once a day. Good luck everyone! May the odds be ever in your favor.

Hey guys. I also applied to global change and i haven't heard either... Feel like it's not a great thing. Has anyone been officially rejected yet?
