  1. Thanks. I applied for the 2011 American Dissertation Fellowship. Maybe the process is different and I've been worrying needlessly.

The link given in my email from AAUW is individualized to my own application. Also, you indicated a closing date of 15 November - this is a different closing date to the Fellowship I applied for so the link may not even be relevant (my closing date was 1 December).

You might need to ask AAUW for the link that relates to your application.

  2. Oh, just realized that you said the link should "start with" with what you posted. No wonder it didn't work :-) Could someone please post the full link? Thanks!!!!!!

Thanks so much but could you double check the link, pleeeaaaase? It isn't working. I'm pretty worried because I never received an email with a "status check" link. I submitted the application before the Nov. 15th deadline and the 40 dollar fee was charged to my credit card. I know my transcripts would have arrived in time, because I ordered them early enough, but I'm concerned about the completion verification form from my department (I gave them plenty of advance notice and sent several "gentle" reminders, but can't be sure the form got in the mail on time). I've been overseas for research and asked AAUW if they could confirm that they received my documents early early in the process. They said no. Now I'm pretty anxious that they charged me and just scrapped my application because one form *might* have been late. sigh.

Also noticed that the page had changed with less choices about checking status. There is another way in, check emails from AAUW which give you a link to check your status. Within the email it says "Click the link below to check the status of your recommendations, using the same user ID and password you use to log into the application: Review My Status (Link) " The link should start with https://actapps.act....event=go&realm= etc

My status still says Recommended. I hope, as others have suggested, that applications are being reviewed - although 15 April is getting awfully close, so to still have Recommended as status probably doesn't look like good news.

If you've applied, please post to let forum know if your status has changed.

  4. Hi everyone! I applied for the AAUW fellowship as well and just tried to check my status. The main page just has my name and address, the name of the fellowship, and something that says "test completed" under the next/options header. Where should I be looking? Thanks!

Uh thanks, I hope that my application gets through and not what you just described.

  5. humm...I'd say, no. I found out that I had the Fulbright-Hays at least a week after others on this forum had received the news. I'll start looking into flights, in any case, so that I'll be ready once (if) I receive the news.

Is your coordinator on the ball? It all goes through them, as far as I can tell.

  6. Great, thanks, although I'm a little concerned that I did not receive a similar email.

E-mail, both one from DoE & from our coordinator. It involves submitting a pre-grant assessment online & then having to get a lot of stuff to the coordinator (like "date of departure, airline, and flight number" - hello, I'm not booking my tickets without any official word from the DoE!).

  7. Thanks for the news! Did you receive it in the mail or by email? I'm overseas right now and so snail mail would make things a little tricky.

FINALLY got some word from DoE (I haven't looked *too* closely, but it involves a "pre-award report" + submitting a lot of stuff to our grant coordinator. It's starting to feel a little more real at this point.

  8. Yes, please, keep us posted everyone. I need to get a visa as well, which will take time. Thanks!

No, I haven't heard anything specific here, either--I was told that we will receive letters and technical forms soon (or that they were mailed out a while back) directly from FH, but nothing yet has shown up..Keep us posted!

  9. I turned down my Fulbright award to accept another fellowship for travel to the same country. It was the strangest feeling. I never in my wildest dreams imagined myself declining a Fulbright. Ever. But I'm glad this means that an alternate will receive it. Best of luck to everyone!

  10. Thanks so much for your responses duckduckgoose and 4greenbananas! Congrats to you too!! I was unaware that declining the IIE would make me ineligible to apply in the future. Wouldn't this only apply if I accepted the grant? Thanks! In any case, I certainly hope that after a year in the field, I will have sufficient data to start writing my diss.

  11. What field are you in? The Fulbright program is also a cultural exchange and if your research is mostly archival, for instance, it might put you at a disadvantage.

Two UC PhD students, with full dissertation proposals, fluent in Chinese, and verified affiliations in Beijing both marked as "alternates" to China. Can someone who does get one please let us know your backgrounds and status? Our advisers are baffled. Thanks.

  12. Please let us know if you hear anything from the grant administrator at your school! I'm afraid to email mine.

quick update: the grant admin at my school apparently wrote to the folks in D.C. to get an updated estimate on the notification timeline. all we know for sure right now is that the results will be announced "sometime in April." le sigh
