  1. I am in a similar position! I committed to U-Mich, which will allow deferral due to "financial hardship" which is a strong possibility for me due to the COVID-19 situation. I can't imagine paying full price for tuition if classes will be online - I am really depending on making connections with professors to secure TA/RA positions for following semesters. However, in my case, I'm pretty sure deferring for a year would mean giving up my academic merit fellowship It's a really shitty position to be in - I'm hoping classes will be on campus, but I'm not sure how likely it is. I will probably wait until June/July to make my final decision in hopes of having a bit more clarity. Please keep me posted on what you decide!
  2. I think UCSB is an amazing place to get an education (I am definitely biased though because that's where I went for undergrad!) And nothing really beats having class right on the ocean - but I'm not sure how the program compares to Yale's. I think Bren has great professors for water resource management, and there are so many opportunities to work with organizations in California afterwards I can't really speak to the program at Yale as I haven't experienced it! Either way, let us know what you end up deciding!
  3. Congrats on your decision!! ? I am still deciding between UMich SEAS and UCSB Bren - current events are definitely impacting my decision, so I'm still not sure at this point. I wish we had a bit longer to decide!
  4. Congrats on funding from Duke! There are some threads in here that offer good advice in negotiating more aid - there's nothing wrong with asking! Are you comfortable sharing how much aid you received from Bren? Right now I am deciding between SEAS and Bren, but I am also considering asking for additional aid from U-M!
  5. Yay! Congrats!! I’m also in at Bren Has anyone here received any fellowships/awards from Bren?
  6. I'm still waiting on Bren as well - I hope we hear back before the weekend! And congrats @WatercolorPainter, I'm so happy for you!
  7. Awesome! I was assigned two - it seems like my main advisor will be taking sabbatical this fall, which is why I was also assigned a temporary advisor.
  8. I'll def be going to admitted students day! Flying out from California
  9. I was admitted to SEAS w/ a $15,000 fellowship! For those of you admitted as well, were you assigned 1 or 2 advisors?
  10. Same here! I'm super anxious - hoping to hear back soon! Do you think you'll end up there?
  11. Congrats! I'm not sure about funding. Did you apply during the priority deadline?
  12. Congrats!! That's awesome - is Michigan one of your top choices? Also, did you apply during the priority deadline?
  13. I was really hoping to hear back from SEAS yesterday or today because that seems to be the pattern for recent years. But haven't heard anything, so I'm thinking decisions might not be this week
  14. That's really strange - when I spoke with the Admissions Director last month, he seemed really confident that decisions would be out mid-February. I really hope that's still true! If I am admitted, I'd like to plan travel arrangements sooner rather than later ugh
  15. I applied for the Environmental Justice concentration! It's pretty much the only graduate school in the country with an EJ concentration, so it's definitely my top choice. But I would want to take a lot of Env. Policy classes as well!
  16. When are you all expecting to hear back? I am thinking mid-February for UMich SEAS, but not sure about the rest of the programs I applied to.
  17. Very interesting! I think Bren might be a great fit for that area as well. I went to UCSB for undergrad, and I got the impression that master's students were on the younger side. Here is a link to an admissions stats sheet: https://www.graddiv.ucsb.edu/documents/stats/ESM_Grad_Profile_Final.pdf It says appx. 60% of the 2019 class was between 21 and 25
  18. I'm also applying for People, Equity, and the Environment! U Mich SEAS is my top choice though I think your current degree at Yale should definitely help! Best of luck to you
  19. Super cool! I am applying for People, Equity, and the Environment at F&ES and Environmental Justice at SEAS! I'm mostly interested in environmental justice research and policy
  20. Now it's a waiting game - best of luck to you all! What specializations are you applying for?
  21. Hiya friends! I'm getting a bit nervous for this online interview later today - please let me know if you have any helpful tips/advice! Thank you
  22. I am planning to do the Yale online interview Friday after work - I'll let you all know what questions they ask if you haven't done it already!
  23. Same! I got some really great info. I also learned that average GPA for admitted students is appx. 3.5-3.6 and average GRE scores range throughout the 70th percentiles!
  24. Hi! For those of you who are applying to SEAS, did the admissions department reach out to schedule an informational phone call?
