  1. Also, currently Berkeley is teaching remotely and would resume in-person activities next week. My guess is that they would convene a physical meeting before sending out any result. So the expected timeline should be about next week. (However, this is entirely my own speculation and I could be wrong. I am confident about the fake posts from past cycles though).

For the past three cycles I've been on this forum, every year around this time there would be fake posts about Berkeley acceptance. Judging by the fact that nobody in this forum claims these acceptances so far, I would be inclined to say that this is just part of this weird tradition...Although typically, when these posts take place, it means that real admission decisions are coming in...

Hi! I got an email about an interview with Duke. It's seems to be specific to my subfield - Theory. The email says they're interviewing theorists, so I wouldn't be worried if you're in another subfield. Good luck, and I hope all of us hear some good news soon!

    Thanks for sharing man!

    Does anybody find it strange?

There was no spike in # of apps for Duke: https://gradschool.duke.edu/about/statistics/political-science-phd-admissions-and-enrollment-statistics

    But doubled for

    Michigan: https://tableau.dsc.umich.edu/t/UM-Public/views/RackhamDoctoralProgramStatistics/ProgramStatistics?:embed=y&:showAppBanner=false&:showShareOptions=true&:display_count=no&:showVizHome=no&FOSDParameter=All+Rackham

    UCSD: https://ir.ucsd.edu/grad/stats/admissions.html

    MIT: https://ir.mit.edu/graduate-education-statistics

    etc.

But only for polisci, none of others such as sociology or engineering had spikes. What's wrong with Duke and polisci? only polisci GRE optional?

Did Duke require GRE for their last cycle? If so, I would agree that maybe GRE being optional played a role in the increased number of applicants...

I received an interview invitation from Madison. One of the professors I showed an interest to work with in my SOP emailed me to set an appointment time. He said he just wants to discuss my files and interests and intends to record the meeting for all members of the committee to view. I am pretty psyched about this because I didn't think Madison would even consider me, which makes the interview pretty scary (never been too good at those). Hope this is a positive step. If it is, I hope you all get your interview invites soon! Any tips to prepare would be really appreciated; I didn't prepare for the possibility cause I thought I wouldn't get to do one.

Hey man, would you mind telling us your subfield? Thanks!

    Hi Etea24,

Thanks for sharing. I actually am looking to pursue a US/European Master's degree in PoliSci first, since pursuing a PhD while not having any prior background indeed sounds way too ambitious.

Can I ask for more details about your transition to the current IR program? Like how did you manage to apply successfully with your transcript, considering business school would likely not provide enough required credits for an MA in IR? Thanks a lot in advance!!

Hey man, sorry for the late reply. I would say getting your GRE score high up is the biggest factor, aside from your recommendation letter, to a Master application in my case. There must be legitimate reason for your transition to poli-sci, reflected in either your SOP or your recommendation letters as well.

  7. Hey man,

I share a similar background with you. I did my undergrad in a US business school and am now in a Master in IR program. I would say you should aim for a master program first to show your seriousness to your field. Also, since you did your undergrad in Australia, you are at a disadvantage comparing with those applying from the states. Getting a US master could compensate for that.

I emailed NYU last week and they said they are sending out offers in batches this year. So there's still hope.

Modifying my statement. I just talked to NYU's DGS in person and was notified my status on the waitlist. You will receive an email this week if you're waitlisted by NYU. According to DGS they exhausted their waitlist last year but could not make an offer until Apr. 14th.

They said something like that last year too, but what really happened was that they sent all PhD acceptances at once, and then waited a while, and then sent unfunded MA (they don't fund) and rejections a month later. Everyone who got accepted to the PhD (possibly small n of waitlisters aside) all heard at the same time.

You could be right. I don't know anything about last year tbh. My source was a professor at NYU Politics.

Any guesses for NYU? I saw a few go out last week but they usually have a bigger class and there were only like 5 posts.
