  1. Hi simonsays! I’m leaning heavily towards school social work, my dream job would be as a school social worker. However I have also considered Children and Families...I have some experience in foster care and it seems a little more versatile, I worry about there being a lack of jobs for school social workers. I’ve been in nyc for ten years myself, although I’m lucky to live nearby in upper Manhattan.
  2. Didn’t see a thread for new students...is anyone else planning to start their msw at CSSW this fall? Figured it would be good to have a place to gather and discuss. I know there’s some Columbia applicants on the other threads but this is more geared towards those of us who have already decided on Columbia How are y’all feeling about things right know? Where is everyone in the process (in terms of whether you’ve submitted immunizations, activated your ID/email, accepted you financial aid offer, filled out the field placement form, etc)? I’m feeling sort of behind, plan to call the school tomorrow to figure out exactly what’s needed for my track (reduced residency). Also what are people’s plans as far as housing?
  3. It’s definitely difficult compared to some other masters programs, due to the field requirements! I’m early thirties and have worked in social work for about ten years as well so I feel you! I looked at online programs but ultimately decided to only apply to programs with specific tracks for people already working in the field. Usually called something like “one year residency” or “reduced residency” or similar. I’m lucky in that employer is willing to be flexible by offering me to work on the weekends (freeing up one or two weekdays for school) or offering for me to work 11 hour shifts and reduce my workweek by one day. I haven’t begun yet, and won’t have to do field work until later years so I will cross that bridge when it comes. I may end up working the first few years and moving to part time the final year when field work begins.
  4. Hi! Has anyone been accepted into the Columbia Reduced Residency program and received financial aid offer yet? I’m being told I have to wait to be sent a form to fill out with my employment info, and then they will process it and make an offer. The form won’t go live until sometime next week so it seems it’ll be cutting it close to the March 3 deadline.
  5. Before! I haven’t paid enrollment deposit yet as I’m still waiting for financial aid info.
  6. Hey! I was admitted last week on the 29th, didn’t get the email with the Facebook page until today. So it took about a week.
  7. Hi everyone, new to the forum but been lurking for a couple months! Has anyone been accepted to Columbia but received an email about it? I saw last Wednesday on the portal that I had been accepted, but no follow-up email. After a couple days I called and they confirmed that I was in, and said they were sending out an email with more information on Monday the 2nd - still no communication as of today. I’m sort of worried they have the wrong email and I’m missing communications, except I’m still getting other emails from them about fellowships and such. Anyone else?
