Oh no! They told me that I will hear back by 27th April

That's good information, thank you!! They said they didn't have a date, and would just keep the waitlist open until all spots were full.

@kcux2020 Did you hear back from them?

I got a mail from them about being wait-listed ?

I was waitlisted as well :( I called and they said that they emailed me on 4/6/20 with the decision, but I never received the email...

I got a reject from IPD today. So hopefully I'll be joining CMU.
    Best wishes for your admit.

Thank you! You as well. Can I ask how they notified you? I've been obsessively refreshing my email (Cornell Tech also said they're releasing decisions this week).

  4. I didn't apply to SVA or Parsons, but I did apply (and was accepted w/ 11k scholarship) to Pratt's IED and had a chance to tour the program earlier this year.

A couple thoughts I had about Pratt:

    • The campus is VERY small. The entire program is on one floor of a building in Manhattan, so it feels very insular and separated from the main Pratt campus in Brooklyn
    • The program collaborates heavily with their library / archives students, so I've noticed a lot of fellowships/internships are around library access, websites etc - this could be great if you're interested in libraries (I know one of their fellowships is one with MoMA!)
    • They do have a lot of technical classes (database work, networking) to help with the more technical side of UX/UI
    • The facilities weren't great... I mentioned above that it's a small campus, but there's not much (if any at all) open studio space beyond 1-2 computer labs

I obviously can't make a decision for you, but I hope the above information helps and gives a little more insight into the program!

I also got into CMU MIIPS. Don't you think it is better than IPD of UPenn?

I am also waiting for results of IDM MIT.

I think it's got better name recognition perhaps since it's an older program. I do really like the UPenn IPD is 2 full years of study though, and the brand recognition of UPenn in general is really good.

When do you think we hear back from IPD? I understand IDM only recently sent out interview requests to applicants as well (I did not apply there).

I've applied in the program. I also haven't heard anything from them.

@Sudhir Jain have you heard anything? I emailed the program, and the admissions director, about a week and a half ago and I still haven't heard anything.

Their admissions website says they *may* release results after May 8th, which seems crazy late to give a decision with a February deadline...

Thanks for your kind advice @Ascender

That's what I'm considering as well. I'm also from a marketing-business background. So the decision between HCDE and MIIPS is a bit like a choice between two paths.  I'm curious about whether you plan to accept MIIPS' offer tho. @kcux2020

@ashhhh I think my last 2 choices right now are MIIPS or UPenn IPD (still waiting to hear back). I have declined NYU's ITP and IDM programs, and decided not to apply to HCDE. I think for me, I wanted less of a pure art and coding experience and wanted to lean toward something more holistic. I looked at the alumni coming out of MIIPS and was really impressed, and most of the career paths were jobs I would want to take after graduation (product designer, design engineer, UX designer). So basically, just waiting on UPenn and then I decide (but their IPD program is pretty similar to MIIPS).

  8. Have heard some not-so-great things about Pratt IXD. I visited there myself and the entire program is on one floor of their Manhattan campus. It felt pretty isolated and very small to spend 2 years there, plus there's no open design space or anything like that. Northwestern has a massive alumni pool and their name recognition is very strong, and I think would give better networking / facilities. I would have applied to EDI myself but you had to have engineering background, which I don't have.

Congrats! In terms of choosing between MIIPS and HCDE, it really depends on what your goal is and what you value. I would say the key differences are curriculum and location (assuming your MIIPS admit is the extended one cuz the internship opportunity will then be the same for these two, otherwise time is another factor to consider). MIIPS will involve more industrial design and business classes, while HCDE focuses more on research and design. If you are to search for internship or land a job after graduation, Seattle’s location is definitely better (and for location you’re also choosing a life style). There are other things like cohort quality, HCDE’s night classes, CMU’s name etc. but they’re not as critical as curriculum and location IMO. Oh I forgot financial cost, idk the tuition for MIIPS but I guess it’s more expensive than HCDE.

I'm also looking into CMU MIIPS...I'm coming from more of a business background and want to ultimately continue in Product Design, so I think the combo of MBA + engineering classes will push it over the edge for me.... Waiting to hear back from UPenn's M:IPD program still! Anybody else apply there?

  10. Has anybody applied to UPenn's Masters of Integrated Product Design? The website says that decisions will be released after March 1st. I haven't heard anything yet so curious if others have heard back?
