Hello :) 1) I specifically applied to the 2 year MSW program at UofT, Laurier, and UBCO, and was surprised I got into all. The programs do care about gpa, BUT they care about other stuff as well. I had a few W (withdrawn) standings on my transcript because I was also dealing with a lot of things mentally at the beginning of my degree. But most programs that I have researched mostly just calculate gpa based on your last year or your last two years. I had some low grades as well due to my mental health before my last year of studies, but I really tried to go above and beyond for my final year. The way I saw it - maybe they would notice how I improved myself over the years and finished strong. I completed my last year with grades mostly in the A range. So if you keep up within the A range, I think you will be fine. And having experience in crisis work (as you do) is great too. 2) I graduated with my undergrad in 2019, and applied for the September 2020 start for my MSW, so I kind of had a year off in-between. I wanted to apply right away, but I was recovering from a physical illness. So i'm not too sure about how common it is to get in straight after undergrad, but I do know lots of people who have! 3) Your anxiety and feelings are valid. It can definitely be very scary to mentally navigate all of this. I think if you keep your application strong (statement and references), have solid experience in the field (work/volunteer), and finish off strong in your courses, you will get in. Rooting for you! ?

I completely understand your anxiety! I am from BC as well and will be attending UofT so I'd be moving to Ontario too. The uncertainty of not knowing whether the classes will be online or in-person sucks, because I really want to start planning where I would live, etc. But as stated by others on the forum that they will probably be a mix of in-class and online, I guess I'll assume that I'll be moving.

Ohh 2016! Yes I am looking forward to that

I actually just graduated last year! What about you? And that would be awesome if we had classes together!

Hi, I graduated from UBC with a BA in Psych as well! I will be attending UofT 2 year MSW this September.

After contemplating for some time, I decided to accept my offer instead of deferring. I think right now, given my life circumstances, it works best for me to not delay my education. But of course that isn't the case for everyone. From my understanding, the first semester (for the 2 year MSW) doesn't have a practicum (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). So if the first semester does go online, I think the practicum component will be one less thing to worry about? Then hopefully the January semester isn't online either because that is when we begin our practicums.

I am genuinely considering deferral as well! When is the deadline to let Angela know about deferrals?

Your concerns are definitely valid! I am in the exact same boat. I would be moving from Vancouver as well, so the uncertainty is really stressing me out (finding a place, flights, etc). I don't want to do online classes or remote practicums either, as I really wanted to get the actual UofT experience that I'd be paying expensive tuition fees for ?. So I totally feel your concerns. I actually didn't know there was a possibility for deferring admissions at UofT? I may look into that as well. You are definitely not overreacting!

Thanks for sharing!

Does anyone know how the UofT 2 year MSW program is? I have read the student handbook and program descriptions from word to word, but i'm wondering if anyone knows someone who has done the program and what their personal experience was like. I got my offer of acceptance from UofT this week and I really didn't think I would have. So now I am looking at choosing between UBCO and UofT, as a lot of people have said to me that I'd regret not choosing UofT? UBCO is only a 4-5 hour drive away from where I live (Vancouver) whereas for UofT it will be a much further move, and it'll be more costly as well with the tuition fees, etc. So I only want to commit to UofT if I know that it will be the right choice for me. I know everyone's experiences will differ. UBCO is a smaller school in comparison to UofT so I'm wondering if UofT things will feel more overwhelming and competitive. If anyone has any experience about UofT to share, it'll be greatly appreciated! Or if anyone can share why they are choosing the MSW program at UofT, I'd love to hear about that as well. Thank you

Yay! and agreed, I'll be coming from the Vancouver area as well. It'll be a nice change. ?

Congrats!! That's awesome. Will you be accepting your offer at UBCO? I accepted mine! I was debating between my offer from UofT and UBCO, but UBCO is much closer to home for me.

Thank you so much! and no way, that's awesome. I'd love to connect beforehand. You can message me on here. I'm still kind of figuring out how to use this forum though, lol. But it's nice to meet you!

Yay congrats!! We will be starting the program together. That's great! Are you already from Okanagan if you don't mind me asking? I will be moving from Vancouver!
