  1. Hi there, I think a typical funding package in McGill is about 18K for Phd, comprised of TAships and scholarship. It is much lower for master's (because of underfunding by the province)
  2. I will wait for the 11th with impatience! Not the end of the world as I have already been admitted to UdeM for PhD (my second choice) with a 20K funding.
  3. Thanks HopefulComparativist
  4. As much as I would have loved to believe this, I know for a fact that McGill has already extended Phd admissions and rejections to several people and they are probably waiting for their responses before delving into 50 something people waiting in their long waitlist! That is the information that I have
  5. Any news from your side Raketa?
  6. Well, I talked to the lady who responds to the messages in UApply!
  7. That is what I was expecting as well, but the lady said you can simply assume that you're in the waitlist if you haven't heard anything as of yet, which is really strange! I think I have lost my hope of being admitted! If I did, it would simply be a miracle. There're about 50 people in the waitlist! This is just nuts! I have never seen this in any programme
  8. I think you're talking about Master's applications. Mine is about PhD
  9. Well, the lady working at the admissions said if you have neither been refused, nor accepted by now, then you are waitlisted. You will hear a definite answer on March 25th! And a lot of people are waitlisted! A lot! Are you in the same situation for McGill?
  10. Well, because of him and a few other professors that I can work with if he is not available. It appears to be one of the few universities in Canada for Middle Eastern political economy. What is your first choice and research interest?
  11. Hi there, Comparative politics (Middle Eastern politics).
  12. And this suspense and uncertainty are torturing me, especially given the fact that this is my first choice. Can we do something (like sending an additional letter detailing our interest, as some websites recommend) to highlight our interest? The department gets only 12 candidates per year and quite a lot of people are already in the waitlist!
  13. Indeed. Not sure how many of you are waiting for McGill's PhD admission results, but it seems that I have seen three rejections and one admission so far on GradCafé. Mine still says "in review". Any McGill applicants out there in the same situation as me?
  14. I am at Université de Montréal's political science department and have applied for McGill's PhD, still waiting for a response. As far as political science is concerned, UdeM has been a terrific place for me. It is one of the best political science departments in Canada and we have a lot of renowned professors. Although you are obliged to take your classes in French, you can, most of the time, hand in your papers and thesis, in English if you like. Which professor would you rather work with?
  15. Any McGill Phd political science applicants waiting?
  16. Congratulations. York is a great place for Political Thought.
  17. No idea. I haven't really applied for that university. I am not sure how the selection criteria is made though. Do they start with rejections first and through elimination, end up accepting the ones that are supposed to be admitted? The results I have seen for McGill are all rejections so far...
  18. McGill appears to be dishing out the results for Phd in political science. Anyone getting news?
  19. McGill and Université de Montréal for Ph.D. in Political Science
  20. Hi everyone. I am applying for Ph.D as well. I have applied to McGill already and am in the process of finalising my application to Université de Montréal as well! Yes, anxiety is driving me nuts too!
  21. I am fourth year student of International development and globalisation at the Uiversity of Ottawa (and resident of Québec) and am pondering on applying to McGill to study political science, notably in the domain of Middle Eastern Political Economy. I am replete with a certain degree of confusion and disorientation, as I am one year away from my graduation and my plans for graduate studies do not appear to be very concrete yet. In this regard, I would be much obliged if any of you could enlighten me on the following few questions that I would like to raise: 1) Although McGill does not have a graduate programme in Middle Eastern studies, it is reputed to be very strong in Middle Eastern studies. Can I carve out a programme that would suit my research interests in McGill? (For instance, Middle Eastern Political economy, to be general, and the cases of Iran and Turkey, to be more specific) 2) As for funding, do you know if students are guaranteed funding in this department of McGill University. A friend of mine was also telling me that funding was very contingent on one's GPA (I have got a GPA of 9.3 out of 10.0 at present) 3) How soon should I make my application now that I am one year away from graduation? 4) Are there any other schools that you would recommend? Cheers, Vahid
