Where are you from? Both schools are great (UIUC has a top CS department but I think UCLA is more steezy). UCLA will be a more pleasant living experience as urbana is in the middle of no where. Being from LA I would personally choose UCLA, but that's just me. Maybe reach out two 2-3 POI's at each place or some grad students to see how hard it is to get a position in the lab you like.

I interviewed for bioinformatics programs at UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, and WashU. I'm am fairly confident I will be accepted so I wanted to get people's opinions on their programs.
I completed my masters in clinical research and data science. I am volunteering in the lab of a PI I am interested in having as an advisor. I am interested in multiomics, knowledge networks(HetNets), clinical/medical informatics, methods in single cell analysis such as cytof.
All these programs are incredible and I feel very fortunate to be in this position.

I wouldn't have asked them to see if you were admitted or recommended to the committee. Just be patient, only send a follow up email thanking them for their time and consideration.
