In response to some questions I've been emailed: Our funding is very competitive with most students admitted with funding. Our placement rates have been excellent in part because of our small program and because of our great training in methodology. In the last couple of years we have placed students in tenure track jobs at the University of Arizona, West Virginia University, California Polytechnic, Louisiana State University, NYU, John Jay College, and some others. Hello, I'm the graduate director for the PhD program in political science at Stony Brook University. Our program isn't as big as others you may be looking at but we rank among the top 5 in the country in several respects. Most importantly for you, our placement rates for our PhD graduates are excellent and in the top 5. We take an apprenticeship approach to graduate teaching that gets our students involved with faculty projects at a very early stage. In terms of specialties, our department is the top program in the country for political psychology and is excellent in the broader field of political behavior. We also are a top department for political methodology, judicial politics and American politics. We have great junior faculty in political economy and are currently in the process of hiring to boost that field. If you are interested, feel free to contact me or to post here.
