Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but I'm trying to decide if a PhD in theory is for me. I've been teaching Theory I and II at a state college in NY for about 5 years, along with an introductory class for non-musicians (I have some other musical goings-on as well, but they seem irrelevant). I'm always thinking about theory. Obviously this seems like reason enough to take the plunge, but I don't know any theorists who've gone through the flames who can give insight into what it's like. Thoughts?
