    Just in!!

Finally I got my rejection letter!! Feeling so relieved now!

BUT! I don't really want to spread negativity, but that was so disrespectful from DAAD's side! So much incompetence even with all this pandemic situation going on! I mean, is it so difficult to write ONE SINGLE template message and send it out to all those rejected applicants? I can't understand..

I must confess, I had still been hoping for good news until April. Then it became so obvious that I am not getting it and started to move on. But maybe, deep inside, I am still being disappointed because of rejection. Might be true ahah. But I am so relieved now because the wait is finally over!

Anyways, I wish good luck to those still waiting.

    P.S: I applied from Italy

I also just got mine! This was a real nightmare! I hated every moment of these 7 months hahaha but not it's done! Let's forget about it and move on, I'll have to eat bread and potatoes for the next to years to be able to study in Germany without this scholarship ?

Italians, I just received this message from Bonn. My question was if I should have considered myself out if I did not have an interview... I'm so confused right now

    IMG_7309.PNG

God, they're so poorly organized hahahah I bet the Bonn people don't even know that the Italian DAAD decided to do the interviews. Anyways, we'll see what happens! Even though the Italian document was very clear about the preselection with interview, so I don't really get much hope out of this email...

    Thank you!
I am not conviced at all about how the interview went though? There were 3 Italian professors and 1 from the DAAD, and one of the professors was very rude since the beginning. I hope it was just a strategy to test my personality or something like that ahah otherwise I can't explain why he was so rude and aggressive.

Did any of you had the same experience with the interview?

Haha it totally was a stress interview! It's just a technique to test how you react under pressure ? Don't worry too much about it, he probably did it with everybody

    Hi,

I am also from Italy and I applied for the MSc all disciplines scholarship. I received the invitation email for interview on 1st of April and did the interview on 29th of April. I also know other 2 guys that applied for the same scholarship and did the Interview in the same days.

Unfortunately, I believe that passing through the pre-selection (and the interview) is a requirement to get the scholarship for Italian candidates. The interview was only 15 minutes so probably they did a huge selection before and interviewing was just a kind of confirm to get the scholarship (also because in 15 minutes you cannot tell a lot about yourself). But I still hope for you that maybe the interview was not required for everyone, even though the regulations clearly state it.

Let's wait for results and see...

Thanks for the info!! Yeah I'm 100% sure we are out, cause they made it very clear that there would be an interview. I just want to see this rejection letter so I can put an end to this nightmare ?

    Good luck to you!!!

What I don't understand is why they didn't tell us (who didn't have the interview) that we were out already in April... so disrespectful to give us still a little bit of hope ?

For sure! And considering that nobody in this forum was selected for the interview, I had even started to think they were not actually interviewing anybody. But then I found a girl on Facebook (from Italy and for the same scholarship) who wrote that she was invited to the interview in the beginning of April, so I guess they just ditched us and they don't give a crap about telling us earlier hahaha

This was  the answer to a message that I sent more than 1 month ago, I think... We're all on the same boat ?

Ohh ok hahah it makes sense. Well I'm just hoping to get the rejection letter ASAP at this point, since apparently anyone who wasn't invited to the interview is out? I have given up on this so long ago, but I really need some closure, this has been going on for way too long.

No, im still at "paper copies received", same since November 2020 ;) Not from Italy though. And @nichtsehrgut I'm so sorry :( You're definitely not alone, and these are so competitive... Hope you can find still find your way to Germany somehow! Or some other great country :)

Yeah I assume everything is different from one country to the other, cause for what I know all Italians who have applied for the Master all disciplines are still at "Application submitted". I was just wondering if the person who received this update in Italy had actually been asking them for information, or if the Italian DAAD sends update emails only to some of us ?

Italians, I just received a message for the Master programme. They wrote that the selection is closed and that we are going to receive a message with the results (99.9% rejection letter for me :') ) very soon. The suffering is almost over?

I didn't get any emails at all... Am I the only one?

Hi! I find it very weird too... there must be an extremely low number of DAAD-scholarship available in Italy.? I applied for the summer language course and I received the result on April, I was expecting a message, even a rejection, for the Master at least in May...

When I emailed them, they told me the results would be released in May or June. So it could still be a month or more from now... But as I said, I gave up my hopes long time ago?

Hi! Anyone who applied for the Master Scholarship programme from Italy has any news? Or at least managed to get an interview? The status of my application is "application submitted" since November...

I applied from Italy too, and I had no news since November. However, as I wrote here about a month ago, I did talk to a girl on Facebook (who also applied from Italy for the Master all disciplines) who received the invitation to the interview at the end of March, and that's when I gave up haha

I think it's been way too long and we will probably get our rejection letter soon. Considering that they said that everyone who passed the pre-selection would have to go through the interview, I don't think there are any chances of us getting the scholarship if we haven't received any invitation.

I still find it extremely weird that, out of maybe 10-12 Italian applicants who wrote on this forum and other groups, only one passed the pre-selection. I also am not sure about their selection criteria, considering I have top grades and I already have lived abroad. I was expecting to at least get through the first selection round... It's really disheartening.

    Here: https://www.daad.de/en/coronavirus/

But I was talking about the Masters's one, don't know if it also applies to PhD ?

Before I said that I found that on the italian DAAD website, but now I realise it is on the general one, I just found the link on the italian site.

I don't know if I should write a mail, because our deadline was in november... That's quite more than 4 months hahaha

Seeing how it is on the general website, and also given the fact that they clearly told some of us by email that interviews in Italy were going to be held, I don't think we have a chance. I gave up on this like a month ago hahaha

It's nice to see that you're still hopeful! And maybe something crazy will happen! But till then, I'm not even checking my portal ever hahaah

Nothing here as well... I also thought there was hope :(
It would have been nice to know we didn't make it before and not waiting until now to find out... Let's wait for the official results but I also have the feeling we didn't win it ?

Unfortunately they will send the rejection letters at the end of the process, not before May or June, and at this point I'm just done trying to think that for some kind of reason they are still going through the pre-selection. This thing is literally driving me nuts and I can't keep checking my inbox every 10 minutes?

Let's keep each other posted in case something crazy happens but I'm definitely done hoping haha

  13. @_Bea_ @axe12

Did you get any emails yet? I don't know if you read my post from a couple of days ago, but I'm kinda giving up here. I think they have already sent out all the invitations, considering they said it was going to take until the first days of April. It's so sad, I thought I had a shot at this...

    Any news from Italy?

We were supposed to hear back from them about pre-selection by March, 23rd.

However, I called DAAD Rome last week, and have been told that interview invitations for shortlisted students will be sent out by the end of the week or, at the latest, by the upcoming week (which is now over). So, as of now, Friday afternoon, anyone got their invitations? I am worried because they could have informed just those shortlisted candidates..

Also, they told me that the final decision will be made in May or, at the latest, by June! And coming from the current situation, it will most probably be even later than June ahaha, which is crazy!

Sadly I have an update. I read on another group that a girl who applied from Italy for the Masters all disciplines got the email with the invitation to the interview at the end of March (she posted on April 1st but I think she got it a few days earlier). Even though they had Easter holidays and all, to me it seems a bit unlikely that they are still sending out the invitations. However, I am still hoping for all of us.

So if we don't hear from them next week we're basically out of the game? Sad story hahaha

    That's gonna be stressfull

Well they didn't really give me a clear deadline... I think it could be next week or even the following one. We'll see, anyway there are at least 3 or 4 of us here so we'll know if someone gets the invitation.

Hey! No news yet... I also emailed them a couple weeks ago and they told me they were going to send out the invitations to the interview until mid April. They also told me that those who don't get selected for the interview will get the rejection letter only at the end of the process, so like May or June. I guess that the fact that none of us got any invitation yet is a good sign. Hopefully we will hear something next week!!

I'm so sorry for it... Please keep on trying and don't discourage!

Concerning your question, I'm pretty sure that they choose a reasonable amount of people for each country (like 50-100?). I've noticed that while checking their annual report. So maybe, that number (252) was related to Italy MA applicants only... But that's just a supposition. Maybe the report includes different programs too, like Phd and BA? I don't know :(

In a Facebook group, I've actually read that some Italian MA All Disciplines applicants must face the interview yet... Daad Italia seems to be on a pretty late schedule comparing other international offices.

I'm Italian too, but I've applied for DAAD GSSP Phd, which is a call directly managed by Daad offices in Bonn.

Hey, since I have applied to the Masters All Disciplines, is this Facebook group specific for DAAD applicants? If so, could you tell me the name of the group? Anyway yes, Italian applicants for this specific programme are still waiting for news about the preselection ?

Hey! Thanks a lot for the information! It cleared up a lot of my questions! And yes, as it turns out, there is quite a bit of useful info in the Italian version of the website; I always consulted the English version (an international student who is not so proficient in Italian yet ?)

Anyways, now I can calm myself down since I was getting worried after reading all those posts of students who already have had their interview and been getting updates on their status. So, I guess we will be getting the final results somewhere in April/May since the interviews (if we can actually make it to the interview stage, lol) are not gonna take place until at least mid-March. A long way ahead!

Grazie! E buona fortuna anche a te!

I was SO hoping to hear something like this! You just made my whole day a LOT better hahahah

Here I am! Anxious italian student waiting for an answer! Still no news for me either!

Also, I have the interwiew form from day 1 after the submission so I don't think it means much for the italians ?

Buona fortuna a tutti!!! Teniamoci aggiornati :)

Please let us know here when you get any updates! In bocca al lupo!

Hi everyone! Is there anyone who applied to "all disciplines" from Italy? Have you received any update on your application? Because my status is still "application submitted", and I have received only one message so far from DAAD saying that they found a missing document (so called "academic status") in my application during "formal check". I am 100% sure this was not included in the checklist of required documents when I was submitting my application back in autumn. But anyways I quickly filled out this form, and sent them back. But haven't received any response from them ever since. Did you also have similar experience?

As for the "video conference" section, on a reddit thread I found out that it's been made available only for those who have been selected for interviews. So it is kind of a good sign then :)  BUT, it is already mid-February and my status is still "application submitted" ?‍♂️  And it is actually so strange that DAAD provides no information about the procedures AFTER the submission of your app. Not a word about the possible announcement date of outcome or whatsoever (at least at the precision level of ±1 month). Also, as I now see, there will usually be an interview before the final selection. I wouldn't even know about this if it was not for forums like this. Anyways, people from Italy, I would be happy to hear about your experience. Thanks!

Hey! I applied from Italy too, and my status is still application submitted. The Italian referents for the DAAD scholarship published a document (on the Italian version of the website) stating that we won't be hearing from them until at least mid March, so I think it is totally normal. The document also said that there will be an interview and we will know more about it after they make the pre-selection. As for the "academic status" document, it was only included in the list of requirements for Italian students, but not on the general requirements on the DAAD website. I will link the document with all the information for Italian students so you can have a look:

    https://www.daad.it/files/2020/11/DAAD-Borse-di-studio-annuali-Documento-informativo.pdf

    Buona fortuna! :)
