  1. Has anyone participated in a virtual visit event BEFORE the admission decision? I am scheduled to participate in one, and I have no idea what to expect.

Since this is before the decision is made, I assume that the faculty members I'd be interacting with would also assess me. Would this be just like a series of interviews? If anyone experienced something like this, please share!

I was thinking about sending emails to the current students to see if they'd have any information, but I feel hesitant to email them because I'm still in the middle of the admission process. Is it a bad idea to email them?:/

Here are some of my updates:

Acceptances: Berkeley Haas, Duke Fuqua, BU Questrom

    Rejections: UCLA Anderson, Wharton

Ongoing: NYU Stern (invited to virtual visit day), LBS, UMD

I guess we'll have all the results by the first week of March?

Hey, so Stern is having a virtual visit day before they make any decisions? Do you know how many are invited to this event?

Congratulations on your interviews and best of luck this application cycle! I'll also share an update for others tracking program notifications. I applied to OB (micro) programs with the exception of Wharton:

Accepted to a program listed on the acceptance page last week.

Kellogg: Interviewed this week. Will likely hear back next week.

Stern: Received interview invite this week.

Wharton OID: Interviewed in early January. Will likely hear back by mid-February.

HBS: First interview in early January. Second interview with faculty this week.

I'm waiting to hear from Yale SOM, Fuqua, Stanford GSB and CBS. I think you're right that these interview notifications should all be in by early February.

    Congrats on all the interviews!

    What was Wharton interview like?

  4. Has anyone had interviews with Wharton or NYU Stern yet??? Just want to know what they are like. From the emails from Wharton, I've got the feeling that they'll be doing maybe two rounds of interviews with 2-3 professors at a time. Whereas NYU scheduled two one-on-one interviews.

I wonder how the dynamics will be different. Any thoughts?

    Already so nervous :S

Applying to Management/Strategy here. I've had this happen to me twice during interviews already where the interviewer is not my POI or even related to my field of interest. It could very well just be the case that the interviewer is on the PhD Admissions Coordination Team and your POI isn't, or that they don't see it necessary to bother your POI in order to assess your ability as a future researcher (which is what they care about at the end of the day). I would still suggest to try to understand the interviewers field of research (i.e. past publications) and if you can have a good academic discussion about an area that is not your own, that is a great sign.

For Wharton did you apply for Management as well? I heard back from NYU this week but not from Wharton so wanted to check.

Hey, thanks for sharing that! I skimmed through a couple of papers of the interviewer but couldn't make a clear connection to my research interests. I have a few questions though... Do you think it'd be appropriate to ask those questions at the end?

Yes, I applied for Management for Wharton as well!

  6. Hi guys, I've heard from Upenn Wharton, NYU Stern and ASU W.P. Carey this week. All Management/OB programs. For ASU though, I'm being interviewed by a prof who's not my POI. Does anyone have a thought on why this is the case? And what would he ask me in terms of research interests? I don't see a lot of overlap in his research and mine.
