I am from India and my aim is to get a PhD and not a job. I didnt apply PhDs because my profile is not yet good enough to get into a PhD and I want to improve my profile and connections to improve my chances of a PhD

Imo choose who you want work with, but MS generally don't have visiting day events, so it would be good if you can try to find out the reputations of your POIs somehow. Are they pushy? Are they accessible? Do they invest time into working with MS students or are they never around?

Although I am sure with your profile you would be able to do great work at either place!

Oh great. If you dont mind me asking would you have chosen ETH over an US college. I am in the same boat and I have to choose between CMU and ETH albeit both are masters. Thanks

My area is kinda small and specific, I would choose ETH simply because of research interest match. Fun fact: CMU don't even have people that matches all my research interests XD. I definitely acknowledge I have my weak points and I am not a perfect candidate, but I couldn't help wishing ETH could be like EPFL and accept more direct PhDs! The competition for DD is crazy.... Well I guess it's not meant to be.

For your situation, both schools are great for machine learning. CMU might be slightly better. Where are you from? If you are not european, US is also better for getting an industry job.

Anyone got contacted for Direct Doctorate in CS?

applied to the direct doctorate program. I contacted my POI in December, they said they would be happy to talk with me, but then ghosted me ?

From that Chinese forum some other person posted under here someone said they got an interviewSo I don't think my situation looks good at all......

Just got an ESOP interview invite for Computer Science MSc from Mrinmaya Sachan. Does getting an invite mean that chances for receiving admission is high or is there no correlation?

omg congrats on the interview! normally it means that the chances for receiving is higher because interviews cost a lot of time from the professors. best of luck!

do you mind sharing info their processes/timeline if your professor share with you during the interview? many thanks ❤️

  5. Has anyone went to a non EU college applied to ETH's MS or direct doctorate program and got accepted WITHOUT submitting a GRE test result?

A bit of context: I go to school in the US, applying to phD right now. My field is CS so most American Universities don't really require GRE anymore, and ETH is literally the only one that's asking me for it. Not sure if I should just don't apply to ETH, because I'd rather do actual work relevant to my research than wasting my time on memorizing those random GRE vocabularies.

Just wanted to ask this. Did you receive the invitation yesterday? I though most of the invites are sent in December itself, and had assumed my rejection since I haven't gotten any interview invite till now.

yup i just got the invitation yesterday, good luck my dude!

You also choose pal? If so, don't worry. They just let you introduce your previous projects you mentioned in your cv or motivation letter and ask some questions on them. If time permitted, they will introduce what your task or work will be in the summer. Good Luck!

Thanks! (although my invitation is from GCM, but I hope the interviews are similar)
