  1. I agree with the others about not applying solely to Yale, Columbia, etc... the top tier schools...of course you should apply to these programs but also apply to programs that aren't in the top tier. I have been in the last application round on here and I have seen many people apply primarily to top tier schools and not get in. Also you said "What I'm wondering is if I'm interested in these schools?" I feel that people considering grad school should apply to programs they truly believe in, and not just because of name recognition. You should really try and find programs that you love and would be proud to be a part of,regardless of how famous it is. Here's a good article about things to consider about applying: http://www.nyfa.org/level4.asp?id=174&fid=1&sid=51&tid=205 As far as your work, the one piece of advice I've heard many times is to have one consistent body of work as opposed to smaller groups of works or a bunch of unrelated works. Also, about showing your work in galleries, I honestly would say not to focus too much of your time on that right now. Of course, if opportunities arise to show you should do it, but try to spend this time making the best work you can. Speaking for myself and all my friends who got into or are already in grad school, we had no experience or minimal experience showing in galleries outside of school. At the end of the day it always comes down to your work, so try putting as much effort you can into your studio practice. Hope this helps, good luck.
  2. Maybe try posting on craigslist, they have artist relating areas where you can post a commission for the painting. Or maybe post a flier or something at a community college/university art department, good luck.
  3. Yeah that sounds like a good idea to me.
  4. Anyone going to UC Davis???
  5. No I still haven't received any funding info. However, after really thinking it over Davis was just the better fit, after talking with the grad director I felt they really cared about me and really wanted me there which is something I could hardly say about Rutgers. And if I went to Rutgers I would be going with two people I went to undergrad with, and I really didn't want to go to school with people I went to undergrad with, I want to start fresh. Plus I just couldn't see myself living in Jersey
  6. UC Davis for me!
  7. I have been wondering the exact same thing, I'm waiting to hear back from Rutgers, I emailed them and they said that I would hear back "probably in April" which isn't too helpful, seeing as their deadline is April 8th, oh well, all I can do is hope I hear back before the deadline.
  8. For those considering Rutgers here's an interesting article, don't know how soon it takes effect. http://www.mycentral...ey=nav%257Chead
  9. Great, thanks for the info, its good to know they have some nice sized spaces.
  10. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!! You said you visited Rutgers, do you mind giving my your impression of the studios/facilities please, there's no way I can afford to check it out, but I want to know what its like there.
  11. Hi, my status changed over the weekend to reflect admittance. I remember reading something in an email they sent last month that they were going to do admissions on a rolling basis, I think that's why I was admitted a week after other people were, they still might be reviewing.
  12. I just checked it and it says "no decision" as well but I'm not sure if it will be official yet. It was stated in the letter that "Official verification will be forthcoming from the Graduate Admissions Office, provided that you have met the conditions for admission established by that office." I agree that its weird that some people received phone calls, maybe I wasn't one of the top choices but good enough to get in?
  13. Hmm, well the letter was from Stephen Westfall and had a lot of general info like dates, contact info, what happens next, etc. The only personal information it had was my name, address and date. Not sure if that's helpful or not.
  14. No prob, I heard from them yesterday via email.
  15. Thanks! Congrats and good luck to you as well. Davis is supposed to send out funding info beginning of next month and I'm not sure about Rutgers, I have to write them a letter detailing my need for funding. So I'm guessing early next month for them as well.
