  1. Hi, I am a rising college senior majoring in biology and math, and planning on applying to immunology/cell bio/microbiology PhD programs after taking 1 or 2 gap years. I have worked in labs consistently throughout the past few years and have good research experience to show for it, but I want to take a gap year/a few gap years primarily just to get a breather from school and because I am finishing up a project this coming year that will hopefully result in a publication and contribute positively to my application (but it won't be finished/published in time for this application cycle). For my gap year, I am trying to decide between several opportunities, some in academic research and some that are entry-level research positions in biotech companies. I am equally interested in both, and wondering if one or the other would contribute more strongly to my application. I'm not sure if this is important, but I have little to no interest in going into academic research as a career and am planning on pursuing a career in industry after my PhD. Thanks very much for your help!
