Did you apply for MS or MS/PhD?
-
Congrats omega!!! Do you mind sharing your profile?
-
Congrats!!! How did your recruiting weekends go?
-
Finally some good news. I got accepted with a full scholarship in Fire Safety Engineering at the University of Edinburgh.
-
lol. Don't believe everything you see on the Results tab...
-
I really have no idea what are their ad stats. I applied to the MIT too. As far as Stanford concerns - $125 app fee?!!! They should be first to announce decisions!
-
I didn't hear about any admits in Structures.. I think every branch handles their own admission process, so I guess there must be someone in charge. I know that Dr Stojadinovic had something to do with it last year or a couple of years ago... Btw, I was told that Structures group usually receives about 350 applications, and they admit only around 50 students each year...
-
Well, it might be that Cornell desires students in Applied Sciences because their Structural program is focused mainly on Computational Mechanics, etc. When I informed my US adviser (who graduated at Cornell) about this rejection, he wasn't surprised at all. His comment was smth like "Yeah, I am concerned about Cornell. They had a major faculty turnover recently.." Even though I would prefer an acceptance from Cornell, I can't say I'm stressed about getting a rejection.

I got a rejection from Cornell yesterday.
-
No, I contacted Graduate secretary. They are probably waiting for professors to receive funding so they can offer assistantship to the certain number of admitted students. I guess they sent out admission offers only to domestic PhD candidates they wanted the most (and who were granted a fellowship). That is my reasoning... Btw, does anyone know which professor is in charge for admission at Berkeley? Dr Stojadinovic maybe?
-
I guess so.. When I asked "why so late", I got this reply: "This is the date that most students will get a reply about their application. This is the typical time frame for decisions."
-
I just wrote to UMN to inquire about the status of my application, and I got a reply that I will hear about it around mid April?!!!! They must be joking with me... They mailed out some decisions already, so it doesn't make any sense...
-
Anyone applied to Erasmus Mundus IMFSE (International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering)? I got an interview invite yesterday, so I'm super nervours...
-
hey, let's try to keep this thread Structures-related. There is another topic devoted to Transportation Engineering...
-
Congratulations phunky! Things are looking good for you! I really do hope to hear something in the next couple of weeks. Waiting is killing me...

Even though I think the information we provide here might be completely misleading, here we go: Undergrad GPA: 9.70/10.00 (regionally reputable European Univ) GPA at the US uni: 3.90/4.00 Top student of my class GRE Q: 790 TOEFL: 108 Honors, Awards, Fellowships: Many honors based on GPA, 1 year full exchange scholarship at the US state uni, grant for a research project at famous European uni Research exp: 7 months of research experience in the US; will have some more this semester at the aforementioned European uni Publications: Coauthored a conference proceeding (ACI Conference) Internship: 3 summers of professional internship (nothing fancy though) LoRs: a really good one from my research supervisor in the US, another one from a US professor (a pretty good one I believe), a perfect one from a European prof SoP: I love to think it looks great; but I am not sure any more

Congrats!!!
-
Cornell will send out decisions sometime between the end of February and the beginning of March.
-
Thanks for the info! I didn't hear anything yet...
-
congrats!!! that's a great program!
-
Did you hear anything at all from MIT? They were supposed to acknowledge the reciept of supporting documents, but I haven't heard from them yet and the deadline was like 10 days ago..:S
-
Is there any offers already? I think it would be cool if we would inform each others about decisions as they arrive. I've applied for MS/PhD at Berkeley, MIT, Cornell and just MS at UMN. Anybody applying to the same schools?
-
As far as I know MIT offers only MS leading to Phd in Civil engineering...
-
Nope, I'll have only a 3-year Bologna degree which is similar to the US Bachelor degree. That's why I thought it may be an advantage for me. Anyway, does anybody know how much V and AW scores matter? Is MIT using the GRE as a way to reduce the number of applications at the very beginning, or do they actually care a lot about it? Of course, I am concerned only about the Civil Engineering Dept philosophy on this matter. Btw, they mention on their website that successful applicants score above 750 in Q, but they don't mention V and AW...

Thanks for advice Moghi. I have one more question. Do you think that the coursework completed could make an impression on admission committee? For example, I have taken PS concrete, Intro to EQ engineering, EQ steel design, Advanced Structures, Advanced Mechanics of Materials and Intro to Bridge Design as undergrad. I think that most of the undergrad students haven't taken those classes, so would that give me any advantage over the other applicants?
