Did you get into Penn State? Hoping to connect with others in the program. Their funding is good.

So far still radio silence from them 🥲 really hoping to get in but who knows what the answer will be this late in the season.

Has anyone been rejected from CUNY? I haven't heard anything and am assuming it's a rejection but would like some closure!

I am also waiting. I saw on the admissions page of this website that people in previous years have complained that they ghost you and don’t give an answer until the last minute even for rejections. They may just be really disorganized.

Maryland already released admit decisions a few weeks ago and had an admitted students event last week.

I didn't apply to U of M but find that to be a bit callous on their part not to inform students before their admitted students event.

Yeah that makes no sense that UMD would do that. To the person who posted about the admitted students day, did you go or did you hear about this through others?

Glad to hear this was told to someone else. I was told the same by the director of graduate studies during my interview this week.

What's your field? Do you think they will send out rejections then too? I applied but was not interviewed so I guess I will probably be rejected...sucks...

Does anyone know if AH programs tend to interview a lot of applicants, or just the ones they're particularly interested in? I know it varies school to school, but just in general how good of a sign is it to get an interview offer?

I don't know that all schools even do interviews. When I had my information sessions with potential POIs only some mentioned interviews.

Im applying to 6 programs (stanford, yale, berkeley, duke, cuny, princeton) but they're all pretty much reaches -- I don't have an MA because it's just not financially possible for me. Very nervous going into the application process

    Good luck to you!!!!

What school said that to you?

Right now, I am debating whether to reapply to BU. I was accepted to their MA program last year, but not their Ph.D. program, and did not receive funding. I couldn't justify the expense, though I am still interested in their program. I am eyeing a few other programs as well.

I heard this from the IFA. I did a terminal MA program at GW and only decided to do it because of the pandemic, if that did not happen I don’t think it is worth it to do a terminal MA because of the cost and there isn’t the same training for further academic careers/other paths unless you really don’t plan on doing a PhD program.

  8. Where are people applying? how has the feedback been from professors people have talked to?

I spoke to a Professor who said they will be taking more people this year than the program did over the past few years...

hoping for a successful application cycle! good luck to all!

  9. I disagree with the previous posters. I have seen many cases in recent years of curators with just MA degrees. I have been told by professors that PhDs are becoming less and less necessary if you have a lot of "real-world" experience. For MA's I see Hunter and Tufts as the best.

Personally, I am going into a Ph.D. program, not because of my desire to be a curator (which I still do want) but because it is a personal goal of mine.

My fields are feminist/queer contemporary 80-90s

  10. Hi!

I decided to re-apply to 3/4 schools I applied to last year plus 4 more schools. One professor from last year told me why I didn't get in last year and what I should improve in my application for this cycle. Others I made the mistake of not reaching out to last cycle and this year I have been more proactive in reaching out to professors and having longer exchanges with them.

First of all, there is a very small client pool for this kind of thing so you certainly won’t find any “big companies” specializing in Art History. There are, however, a good number of freelancers out there, many of whom have PhDs. I would google around. That said, while I’m sure a good editor could improve your materials, I’m not sure one will really be worth your money. I would ask one of your professors and perhaps a smart friend, especially if they’ve been through this already, to read a draft first.

Thanks for sharing! I took your advice and googled around. Appreciate the suggestion!

Anyone heard anything from UPenn? Haven't heard anything about interviews.

Out of curiosity, does GRE make a difference? I got 167 verbal 165 math and 4.5 AW. I only submitted where it was required bc I felt like only my verbal was good and even then doesn't add much – I feel like you can tell I have adequate verbal abilities from my transcript/writing samples. Plus they charge per school. However, I'm finding that I'm getting a better response from where I did submit my scores even though they're nothing special. What do you all think?

Also waiting to hear from UPenn. I know someone else here is too. ?

    Hey team,

I just received this email from my POI at Bryn Mawr College.

I want to know if it's only an interview or more like an unofficial offer.

I am glad to let you know that we have just had a department meeting discussing all the applications to our graduate program this year. You have been ranked as one of the top candidates. The committee was impressed by your passion for art, your previous academic training in art history, your fieldwork in Chinese museums, and your approach to Chinese art. The committee was excited that our department and college can provide the necessary support you need to prepare for your future career.

I will be ready to meet with you via Zoom or Skype, and perhaps to chat about the graduate program and your plans at Bryn Mawr.

Btw the title for this email is Good News.

Could anyone who received interview invitations share invitation details?

    Lots of thanks

Also applied to Bryn Mawr and I am waiting to hear. Any further insight?
