Thanks a lot. I checked the fn+f5, and under "wireless communication" the bluetooth connection is on, but the 802.11 wireless connection is off even though the wireless connection indicator light at the bottom of the screen is on. I tried clicking "open" at the fn+f5 panel but the 802.11 wireless connection label is still gray (the bluetooth label is shining green)

Hi. My Thinkpad X61 suddenly cannot find any wireless device. It happened when I was downloading an antivirus trial version at school yesterday. It simply cannot locate any wireless device when I do "search for wireless ". I thought the school's network was down. But when I went home and put it next to the Verizon router, it stil says "cannot find network" when I clicked "search for WLAN". All WLAN configurations are correct (with non-key at my school and 10 digit WEP key at my home). But the signal itensity is 0%, with a "not assigned IP address". I clicked the link "help me solve this problem" and under "connection status" it says "error code 007, chosen wireless network out of range or inaccessible, please move to a closer position and retry". This is wrong because all my roomate's and labmate's computers have excellent wireless connections at home and school. My question is, is it a software problem or a hardware malfunction? I need help! I am doing research, and without a laptop that can go online is completely frustrating. Thanks

I have been using my Lenovo Thinkpad X61 for 5 years (haven't done any repairment during the 5 years). Recently my battery is giving me a problem, it suddenly dropped from 64% electricity to 4% electricity. In another occasion when I was attempting to recharge the battery. It stopped at 39% for a long time, then it suddenly skyrocketed to 100% after 10-20 minutes. I am a first year PhD student, so either I would like my computer to be fully repaired or buy a new one. What are the good laptops to consider in United States? PC or apple? I have been using PC all the time but I know PC gets a lot of computer virus I've heard machintosh laptops are really good, but a lot of softwares can't be installed on Mac. Besides, macbooks are pretty expensive. What's your choice? Thanks. Plz don't delete this topic.

And my research project could be: studying the genetic mechanism behind microbiology pathogenesis or studying the specific mechanism of virus replication So I need to think further before making decision.

Microbiology and Virology, which field offers better chance in finding a job? I know this question is too board, since there are a lot of branch areas in microbiology and virology. But I would like to know the general picture of these two fields: which one is more promising? Perhaps I should make it more detailed: studying the genetic mechanism behind microbiology pathogenesis or studying the specific mechanism of virus replication

Hi. Does anyone has a clue about how to study Biochemistry (Nucleic Acids)? I am a new grad student, and I totally have no idea of how to deal with this course for my first semester. I mean my knowledge about biology is ok, but when it comes to structures, thermodynamics.....I used to hate Chemistry in my high school and undergraduate years. Does anyone who doesn't have strong chemistry background also feeling the same as me?
