  2. Hi, I think UCLA is much better compare to UCSD, both in ranking and in research. -Mj
  3. Hi All, Recently I got admission offer from UCSB for MS in ECE department but without funding so I am wondering is it worth it to go for MS without funding ? I am International candidate and fees of UCSB is 9,000 $/quarter so almost I have to spent $60k for 4 quarter fee and living expenses Thanks in advance -Mahaveer
  4. Hi, Did you get offer this year for MS in ECE? Thanks, -Mahaveer
  5. Hi, Is anybody who got admission in MS with CCSP (Control, Communication and Signal Processing) domain from UCSB ? -Mj
  6. Hi, Last week I got MS admission letter in ECE department from UCSB graduate division, and they also mentioned :- Your admission to UC Santa Barbara is “provisional,” pending the receipt of the following document(s): Final/Official degree certificate with BTech degree and date of conferral posted from Your collage. They didn't mention any deadline to submit this documents so I have tried to contact graduate divison but they are not responding, I am an international students and I have submitted original transcript via mail in Jan'11 (myself not by my University). So I am confuse about whether degree certificate should be send by my university or is it okay if I send duplicate degree certificate attestation by my university (because my university award only 1 original degree certificate) ? Admission letter does not contain any information about any financial supportl so should I assume I am not getting any scholarship/fellowship or the decision is still pending ? If anybody have information please share . Thanks, -Mahaveer
  7. Texas A&M is also good university, but you should consider research in VLSI rather than costs, if you are getting schol. -Mj
  8. Not that much, but ranking wise UCLA is better and UCLA also has better research in VLSI. UC normally send funding status after admission offer so best of luck. -Mj
  9. Hi, UCLA is far better than UCSB, did you get funding ? Best of luck -Mj
  10. Hi, here is my reply, My research area is algorithm development in GPS/MEMS sensor navigation field(Geomatics), probably I am going to apply in same field if it is available in ECE (electrical and computer). My experience in this field is 1.5 years (working in R&D as a Algorithm developer in a very good company) 1.) My all publication are published in US in (IEEE & Institution of Navigation (ION))conference, patents are filed in US as well as India. 2.) I am 2nd author in all this publication, currently I am working in company so all work is done by me but ofcourse my manager is main author. 3.) Yes, because I am only one who done this work so they know my role in publication. 4.) My B.Tech thesis and my current work in this company are same, but in B.Tech I have done some very good project under same recommenders. 5.) All my recommenders are well impressed with my work and I am still in contact so they will give me very good recommendation. Thanks you, -Mj
  11. Hi all, I am really confuse about my profile evaluation and chance of getting in to top 10 universities. Any thoughts would be most appreciated B.Tech (2005-2009) IIT Delhi (Top Engineering collage in India) Major Degree:- Engineering Physics Minor Degree:- Computer Science GPA:- 7.9/10 GRE score:- 550+ V, 800 Q Research: 1.5 Year Exp. in R&D as a Algorithm developer in a very good company. Publication & Patents:- 5 patents (3 US , 2 India) and 2 conference paper (IEEE) Award: - 2 best project award in IIT. My dilemma is 1. My GPA is just above average, but I have enough patents and publication to show my skills. 2. My Major is in Engineering Physics and I am planning to apply in Electrical or computer science department. My patents are on Algorithm techniques, minor degree is in computer science, work experience of 1.5 year in software industry will strong backup for me. And also all professors for recommendation are from Electrical Engineering (well reputed and will give me very strong recommendation). So should I apply in top 5 university in US (Stanford, MIT, CalTech and Berkeley) or choose low ranking collages(Texas, Purdue, Cornell). What will be chance of getting top 5 if I am planning to apply for PhD rather than MS. And which department I should choose. Please give me some suggestions Thank you -Mj
  12. Thanks, yes it will be good idea to contact professors, but in worse case suppose I will not get MS in these univ, what are my chances in Cornell , Purdue or University of Texas? Because I want to make sure that I will select in atleast one good university. Thanks again, -Mj
  13. Got GRE score 550 in verbal and 800 in Quant. Please give some suggestion, I really need some suggestion... -Mj
  14. I've been going through the profiles posted here, but not able to evaluate my profile and chance of getting into school. Any thoughts would be most appreciated B.Tech (2005-2009) IIT Delhi (Top Engineering collage in India) Major Degree:- Engineering Physics Minor Degree:- Computer Science GPA:- 7.9/10 GRE: Taking them on 27 September, Expecting score around 450+ V, 800 Q Research: 1.5 Year Exp. in R&D as a Algorithm developer in a very good company. So should I apply in top 5 university in US (Stanford, MIT, CalTech and Berkeley) or choose lower ranking collages. What will be chance of getting top 5 if I am planning to apply for PhD rather than MS. Another question is :- Is it good to ask your Manager for recommendation letter, if I ask my manager he surely will give me very good recommendation. Other 2 recommendation I am arranging from my professors (Graduated from Staford univ). Please give me some suggestions Thank you -Mj
