2023 Canada Admissions SLP thread
quruxSLP replied to SLPplease1's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Congratulations to you all! Unfortunately, I was rejected by Western and waitlisted by McMaster. And I did not hear back from UofT yet, so I am sadly expecting some sad news. As this is my first time applying to SLP grad schools, I do not feel too dejected. But maybe the sad feeling will kick in later. It will be a long and hard journey to reapply again next year (if I don’t make it off the waitlist) but hopefully my experience this year will make the reapplication journey easier! -

I’m in a dilemma…. Should I stay up until 12 am to check? Or should I wait until I wake up? I’m leaning towards until I wake up. I am pretty good at sleeping through anxiety but not sadness (i.e. if I get rejected). -

Yes, if you already followed the instructions and activated your Western Identity, you should be good to go! And yes. My application on stage student centre also says “application received”. I read a post (from a Western SLP student) on the forum earlier today about Western SLP admissions committee had their final talk on applications on March 20th…. So nervous! -

I have not been active on this forum due such a busy school schedule. But anyone else receive an email from Western and had their heart drop? 😱. Then I saw and read the contents of the email (a reminder for everyone to activate their WesternID). So to all hopeful Western applicants, please remember to activate your Western Identity in case you did not already! -

I’m also looking for some resources to help prepare but I’m not finding many either! I’m still on the search though so I will definitely post anything I found in this thread! -

Thanks! That’s so strange, I did not receive an email and I checked my spam and trash religiously. I emailed the email address you included inquiring about my predicament. Thanks once again! -

Hey everyone! Out of curiosity, did anyone who applied to UofT and/or Western get an email to sign up for their schools’ portal or anything like that? I haven’t received anything like that so I just want to make sure! -

Check your inbox everybody (spam inbox too)!! McMaster has selected people for the interview portion. I was invited to participate in an interview and I am actually quite shocked. I originally had no hopes for getting into McMaster at all so I debated for a long time to even apply to McMaster. But I am glad I did! BTW, my calculated GPA cannot really be considered competitive in McMaster standards. Like a lot of us have been predicting in this forum before, I think the applicant amount is down this year. Nonetheless, this has really affected my mental health in a positive way. Especially since the New Year has been really tough on me. I hope to hear further good news from my other choices! And I hope all helpful people here also receive good news! -

I was initially very worried about my lack of volunteer experience due to the pandemic. However, I have been in contact with a UofT SLP graduate (who graduated last year) and they had essentially zero volunteer experience but still got in during the time they applied. I believe this was due to their very strong personal statement, which they graciously allowed me to read, and their strong reference letters from their professors. -

Saw that Western University had 506 applicants apply last year, UofT had 337 applicants last year, and Macmaster had 533 applicants last year. -

Just sharing my experience! This is my first time applying. I will definitely look back at this whether or not I get in~ I just submitted in my application for the SLP programs at UofT, Western, and McMaster. I'm a bit worried about my prospects, especially because my cGPA (around a B ) isn't as strong as my GPA in the last two years (3.7 on the scale) due to poor performance in my first two years of study. However, I have a lot of research experience in linguistics, especially language perception and production and I've put a lot of effort into my statement of intent. Also, my professors have willingly let me know they have written me one of the strongest letters they have written for a student of theirs. Additionally, I applied to the McMaster SLP program through the Black Equity stream, so I'm interested to see how that process differs. I'll update any fellow Black SLP applicants on my experience! -

Hey everyone~ This is first time posting on grad cafe and the first time applying to SLP schools! I was wondering if anyone has experience or know someone who has experience applying for McMaster's SLP program through the Facilitated Black Admissions Program?
