    Go to Columbia, it will be way easier to get into a PhD from there, and also Dorothy Ko is brilliant with material culture, among other faculty.

    You actually have an advantage on the job market for the precise reason that you will "only be a problem" as a tenured faculty member for a shorter period of time than someone in their late 20's/early-30's

    Prepare questions as well, like "How would x center help support my research?" Don't ask something basic like "What housing is good in x city?"

    Has anyone heard anything from the HTC program at MIT? Other than that results will go out between March 15 and April 1, I don't know anything.

    I emailed POI and I was on their waitlist and then rejected - probably because I mentioned that I had other offers.

    Congratulations, that is a wonderful program (the MA?) and funded too! You should be very happy, and this will be a great stepping stone to a PhD program.

    But like can you compare History to other humanities disciplines, it feels like a lot of whining for one of the two better funded departments, this and English.
