Mine just changed and has a link that says Admission Recommendation - it says “Congratulations! …”

I'm anxiously reloading the screen to see for a change lol. Did it say the "view decision" stuff like mine, for yours before it changed? Also... Congratulations!!!

Apparently you login to Friends account > New and Prospective  Student Business > Application Status - For some people there's a link that says "View Application Recommendation"

Mine says view decision and on there it says: "

Your application has been reviewed and a decision has been made.  You will be receiving notification directly from The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy."

No idea if that's good news or bad 😶
  3. Hey, all,

I also got an email from the Ford School informing me about next week's release. Really holding it out to the last minute here. I've also applied to Princeton's MPA and started another forum for that on here:

Still haven't heard back either. I also applied for advanced standing. Really hoping to hear back this week. They are the only program I haven't heard from yet and I'm ready to just start planning my future

Right there with you. The lease in my current apartment is up in May and I have to plan all of this in such a short amount of time!!

Ah got it, do you think we'll hear today? The wait is killing me haha. When did you submit your app by?

I'm hoping I hear back today, but who knows! I submitted my app on 12/1.

Luckily for me, UMich was my primary pick and I got in. So that's taken away some of the anxiety of waiting. Columbia is also the least accessible school for me in terms of cost of living and tuition. Breaking down all the costs of Columbia, even for a one-year advanced standing student is shocking. But who knows, maybe Columbia offers some competitive funding opportunities after acceptance.

Did they say when we should expect to receive a decision?

I kinda mentioned something to the effect of "I hope if I'm getting this call that means I might have good news!" lol. She laughed and said she couldn't confirm anything on the phone. But, she sounded positive on the phone. So, it sounds like they're working to get people's letters out. Judging by the others students posts and the call I got.

I saw a couple people have heard back from Columbia. Is anyone else still waiting? Or has everyone heard back?

They called me just a bit ago asking for my latest transcript (I applied during my final semester last fall). Hopefully good news if they're asking for it!

Hi there! Congrats on your acceptances and scholarships! I got into University of Michigan as well, but not much funding... if you don't mind sharing, who did you reach out to to reconsider your funding, and how did you phrase it?

Thank you! Pretty exciting to be accepted to Michigan.

So, the re-consideration process at UMich SSW requires obtaining the official re-consideration form. You have to complete that, along with a five page essay. If you reach out to someone at the SSW financial aid office, they should be able to email you the form. The way I worded it was just in a tone of gratitude for the aid they offered, but that I still had some financial concerns about my ability to attend (the tuition is pretty expensive as an out-of-state student). Once I submitted my form and essay, they got back to me pretty quickly with a new offer.

    UMich SSW Financial Aid

    Phone: (734) 936-0961

    Email: ssw.finaid@umich.edu

    https://ssw.umich.edu/programs/msw/financial-aid

It was also highly recommended to me that I apply for one of the special programs. I'd ask about signing up for those special programs before submitting the reconsideration form. The form will ask several questions about avenues you've already explored for more funding, including special programs. Just looks better if you've checked some of those boxes already. More info at: https://ssw.umich.edu/admissions/msw/financial-aid/special-programs

It appears that a majority of the funding goes to students involved in these programs.

    Good luck!!

  9. Got into UMich MSW Program with a competitive funding offer and WVU's MSW Program!

Make sure you advocate for yourself in UMich SSW funding. You can ask for funding reconsiderations. That might apply to more schools than Michigan..

    No word from Columbia, though!

    Good luck everyone!

Yes the cost is a big factor for me too as an international student, and with very few external scholarship options, it'll be difficult to attend without funding, if accepted.

I checked for the last 2 years and it was somewhere around 11-12 March but I think the deadline was also 15 Jan in those years. And also, on their website, Ford had mentioned that they start reviewing applications from the beginning of January till the end of March. Ugh! I really hope they stick to the trend so far

Totally understand that. Even for me living in the states and going to an out-of-state school is wildly expensive. UMich's MSW offered me an extremely competitive financial aid package. But everything is riding on the Ford School for that decision.

I see you applied to the Princeton's SPIA as well. You been able to find anything on decisions coming out? I applied there (with minimal hope I would be accepted lol). But the application portal says they send acceptances out from end of Jan to March 15th.

Hey, thanks for starting the thread and congrats on the acceptance!

Applied at the last moment, and then found out the deadline got extended, haha! Hopefully we'll get to hear something in early March itself.

Thanks!! A little worried about the cost of going to Michigan, considering I'm an out-of-state student. I saw that it was extended though! I think mine was in sometime in December. I'm hoping they keep it to early March though. You know when the previous year acceptances went out??

I applied to the PhD program. Decisions were sent out by now last year for PhD, but I haven't seen anything about anyone getting accepted this year yet

Ah, I see. I'm not familiar with their Ph.D. program. Thought about applying to a few Ph.D. programs, but an MSW degree is practically required for anyone in social work. So, figured I'd try and get the MPP while in school, considering my interest in starting a career in social policy. Good luck on getting into a Ph.D. program!

  13. @poliscigradstudentHoping it comes out in early March. I applied as a dual master of social work and public policy student. I was accepted to the MSW program (woo hoo!), but waiting on the Ford School. The MSW program needs my answer to go into their program by March 15th. So, the timeline is going to be tight!
