  1. I have received admission from a school I like very much. I like the program, the faculty, the research, the students, the clinical training a lot. Yet I am just hoping my SO (in relationship for 7 years, a very serious relationship) will get into schools near that area. If my SO does not receive admission in that area, I might chose another school where we can be together. The faculty and his students have asked me how I am going to make my decisions. . I just want to know whether it is appropriate to let the faculty or students know about the situation I am having. Does it look unprofessional? How should I word it? Thank you so much in advance!
  2. Hi all, I am given an admission and have received quite a large amount of fellowship. I absolutely love this school but there is a school that I would love to go (but I am currently waitlisted) because of personal reasons (boyfriend issues). The potential faculty advisor sent me a very nice email, hoping I could join his lab. I really do want to but would like to hear back from the other schools first, which may take quite a while. What do I do? How do I write back? I know perhaps letting him know about boyfriend issues is ridiculous, but how can I tell him that I really like his lab but cannot give out any decisions yet with no apparent reasons? Thanks!
  3. I emailed and asked my application status , the person replied: "We will have our final decisions at the end of February. Interviews for the top-ranked people are done at the discretion of individual faculty members, who would contact applicants directly." So I would say it's a reject if you haven't heard from the faculty members of the Social Psych programs, but I don't know about the others. btw, congrats to those who got an interview!
  4. I emailed University of Michigan, Ann Arbor and found out that I am waitlisted for the Developmental Psychology program. I heard that they are making their decisions very soon (or have made their decision?). Has anyone heard any news from them so far? If you are accepted and not planning to join their program....I would appreciate it if you can let them know your choices soon. Thanks. ; )
  5. Wow--Congratulations on that! May I ask what your stats look like? My friend applied to the biochemistry one. don't know if they process differently. Do you happen to have any idea how many international students they might accept? Thanks : )
  6. Thanks for both of you who answered my question! So does it mean that -- they send applications for fellowship for those who they think are eligible/ qualified for the program, and they only accept students who got the fellowship? If those students who did not get the university fellowship, it means they are no longer considered (or have to look at other funding options)? What do university fellowships look for anyway? (GRE/GPA/Research Experience/Interest?!) Thanks for answering in advance!
  7. The graduate advisor sent me an email asking questions to clarify my citizenship post-interview and later told me that they needed to know because "We are considering you for a fellowship...blah blah." What does that mean? Initially I thought that means I have a good shot, yet I have not heard from them for about a month! I am a little worried. Gosh, I'm now like an OCD patient checking emails once every few hours.
  8. Hi guys-- Has anyone heard from UCLA chemistry and biochemistry (Deadline was Jan 15)? I am asking for my friend who is international. Thanks!
  9. I am asking for a friend who is international...Has anyone heard from UCLA chemistry and biochemistry (deadline was Jan 15)? My friend applied for this program with an emphasis on biochemistry.
  10. Has anyone heard from Cornell Human Development? I applied to their program with an emphasis on aging and health. Does anyone know if they do interviews?
  11. I am a US citizen but I study in another country where I grew up in (I lived in the US for a few years in elementary and went to US for exchange during my junior year in college). My native language is not English, but my English is fairly fluent. My keywords of interest would be "Aging, Family, positive psychology (resilience, well-being, PTG), Health (chronic illness, stress, coping), Emotion and Culture." Thus, I am planning to apply for clinical, health and social psychology that are related to my interest (although i would say clinical psychology as my primary interest). I was wondering what are my chances in getting into these programs? 1. University: I would say the top university in the country i grew up in. Currently 5th year. Psychology major. 2. GRE: V-640/800; Q- 800/800; AWA-4.0 3. GPA: Cumulative 3.925/ Major-a bit higher than cumulative gpa/ UCSD (exchange for a year during junior year)-3.788 4. Research Experience: Currently conducting an individual undergraduate research with grant from National Science Council (but still under process, no results or publication) and participated in weekly lab meetings. 5. Clinical Experience: volunteering in elder care center (but not for very long) 6. Recommendation letter (chair from our dept, my advisor for my lab work, still looking for the third one.) What are my chances? I am asking because most of my professors in our dept. tell me that in the past, nearly no one from our dept got into clinical psychology phd program directly (is it because they are international?). Those who successfully got into clinical psychology phds go for a master of something-related first. They tell me stories of those who have excellent grades, graduated from clinical psychology masters in our dept, have much research and clinical experience-- never got into clinical psychology phd programs directly, let alone I am only an undergrad with relatively few research and clinical experience. Sometimes it is a bit discouraging...So i want to ask whether I have any chances of getting into clinical psychology programs such as USC, UCSD/SDSU, UW, UCB, ASU? Affective science in stanford? or like health psychology programs in UCLA? aging related field in Michigan? I just don't know what's the fittest school for me. Having a very very hard time selecting schools. Am I aiming too high? Thank you for your comments in advance!
