  1. So, about 2 minutes after writing that I got the letter sent from rachel to (I assume) all of the turkey eta candidates, which says that they hope to have things out by the end of may. Awesome. Also, she mentions that they expect to award 60 etas...I thought they were anticipating more than that, like 75. Am I remembering wrong, or have they revised things down?
  2. I'm also waiting for turkey eta news. I emailed rachel this afternoon so will let you know if I hear anything...last time I emailed her was about 3 weeks ago and she said anything before the end of april was doubtful, so I don't know...
  3. Hi guys, I haven't been reading all the threads, but I'm an ETA finalist for turkey and got an email from Rachel the other day. Apparently she doesn't think any kind of notification for turkey will go out before the end of this month at the earliest, so...we'll be waiting for a while. Best of luck to all.
  4. I remember reading about this in some old threads on here and it seems what people were saying is that applicants are "ranked" by the american committee, and then some countries simply take the top-ranked applicants and give them the scholarship, while others evaluate the applicants independently (possibly taking into account the american rankings). I have no idea if the people who wrote about this knew what they were talking about, though...also it seems like if some countries simply take the top ranked applicants it shouldn't take 2-4 months to get the results out...
  5. I'm a finalist for Turkey ETA as well. What were the issues that led to delays last year? I saw on the spreadsheet from last year that turkey's eta's weren't notified until May but didn't read through the massive thread from last year. Also, does anyone know if we can request our "ranking" from the american selection committee? Someone told me, or I read somewhere, that the us fulbright commission ranks candidates and then some of the foreign committees just take the top half as winners (and the other countries probably would take into account the us commission's rankings). I don't remember where I heard this thought so I don't have the nerve to bug my region's rep.
  6. Well, it would most likely be an ngo, but if a government agency then a turkish one...so either way, I would be working in turkey and not the states.
  7. Hi guys. Glad I found this board. I'm applying for an eta this application cycle and I'm at large, so my app isn't due for another two weeks. I was wondering if I could ask some advice about one of the points that we are supposed to address in our essays. One of the main goals of the program is for scholars to promote cross-cultural interaction and mutual understanding, both in the country where they are based and upon return to the us. My career plans after fulbright are, at least for several years, to work with an ngo or government agency in the country to which I'm applying - in other words, I won't be returning to the us immediately after the fulbright except for short periods of time. So I'm kind of at a loss as for how to address my contribution in the us. Is anyone in a similar situation or have any tips? Thanks, and best of luck to all.
