My applicant portals have the option to accept or decline the offer. I did that, but I also had an ongoing email thread with the admissions director for one of the schools, so I emailed her thanking them for the opportunity and support in the process. The other school I don't have any correspondence with so I haven't decided whether or not to follow up with a thank-you email. I figure it's just a polite thing to do. Anyway, I'm going to Purchase!! 😊

Got my RISD rejection yesterday 💔 and financial aid package from CCA this morning

Im 32 and didn't start thinking about going back until I turned 30. it's never too late to start a new chapter in your life! personally I'm glad to have had this much time to figure out my practice outside of school, etc

my results: Purchase - accepted for the dual MA/MFA SMFA - accepted CCA - accepted VCU - rejected Yale - rejected Tyler - rejected RISD - still no response, calling it a rejection My work doesn't really fit within a particular discipline, but I thought printmaking would be the best program for me at all of these schools. Turns out the only acceptances I got were from interdisciplinary programs. It really makes me wonder if I would have gotten different results had I applied in other departments. Regardless! I feel pretty good about 3/7 and am super excited to visit Purchase next week

I have not heard from VCU, whether for an interview or final decision! Not sure if anyone else who has posted on this forum applied to that department as I've been asking with no responses lol

I also got accepted to SMFA! They offered a 25% scholarship but damn it's still incredibly expensive... I may visit just to see what the program is like in person.

omg I just got an acceptance email from Purchase!!!!

I interviewed with Purchase's Art history chair on Friday and submitted an app to the dual degree. feeling really good about this program and just doing my best to be patient waiting for final decisions. So exciting seeing all the acceptances in this thread!

Took a look at the previous threads on here to see if I could find out when VCU Painting contacts finalists lol. 2023 - someone interviewed mid-late February 2024 - someone got an interview on 2/13 So, I'm sort of expecting not to hear back until they send rejections, but you never know! Their photo department seemingly doesn't interview until the end of Feb/early March.

Had my CCA interview which went fine! I have a mutual friend with the faculty member I spoke to which was a nice surprise. I sure am ready for this whole process to be over!! but I expect it'll be another 3-4 weeks before decisions from everywhere I applied. asking again but has anyone heard from VCU painting/printmaking?

Absolutely--I do think it can be an important factor, for better or worse. You were smart to make connections during the application process! I applied to 7 as well, including Yale which I'm sort of wishing I had replaced with another program. I didn't know that painting is the most competitive discipline across most schools and as someone applying in printmaking, which is often combined with painting, I think the odds were stacked against me there. Oh well! I hope things work out for you this year! I got an email last night inviting me to interview at CCA, so I'm very happy about that. Only waiting on VCU--sounds like only some of their departments have scheduled interviews? and expecting a rejection from RISD. Congrats to you all who received acceptances!!!!!

Wait, what? For the Yale painting app they requested you choose one "representative work" which I interpreted as being the one I feel best demonstrates what i'm trying to do. I didn't check that box for any works in any other applications, lol ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ @Painter55 it sounds like your application is probably significantly stronger this time around! In my experience so far, I'm only getting responses from interdisciplinary programs vs. schools where I had to choose a discipline and I can assume it's based on the type of work i'm making. "who I know" hasn't been a factor for me--I had a great portfolio review with one school, was invited to interview, and my interview with them went poorly (maybe partly because it was my first one) I've never spoken to any of the faculty at the other two schools where I've been invited to interview. without knowing where you applied to I think it's probably unfair both to them and to yourself to conclude that networking is the only reason you're hearing back.

I had my interview with Purchase this morning and it couldn't have gone better tbh!!! I got very positive vibes from the department chair and he asked if I'd be interested in doing their 3-year MA/MFA program, along with a few other comments that make me think I'll be getting good news from them 😊 They will be sending acceptances very soon after they conclude interviews as an FYI to other applicants!
