  1. Advice needed please! I was waitlisted at a few very competitive joint MA/phd programs, but ultimately rejected. I received an offer of acceptance from UChicago for their CMES MA program. I received some tuition assistance but it’s still very pricey. I think I can manage it but it thrown for a loop. I’ve just been planning on a funded program and did not consider loans since I just felt so close to attaining a funded offer. I graduated two years ago and this is my second application cycle with one offer. Should I take it or try again next year? I am just very tired of the application process and only planning one year of my life expecting to go to school the following year. I think the MA will be the step to get into these PhD programs but at a hearty cost.
  2. Has anyone heard anything from John Hopkins? I know their normal graduate chair is on sabbatical for near eastern studies.
  3. That happened to me with Michigan 🤦‍♀️ I hate the waiting game. Hope remains in Pandora’s box 😂
  4. Okay so I was rejected from the PhD at Chicago for NELC but they said they liked my application and sent it to be reviewed by the middles eastern studies program for the MA. I got an email saying I have an admissions update but my login is only for the PhD application and I can’t find the MA status update. I emailed the admissions department but they haven’t replied. I’m going a bit stir crazy knowing there is a decision somewhere I can’t access. Did anyone else have this problem? Do you know how to fix it? Also, I’m waitlisted at AAMW, I was wondering if the person who was accepted and still pending could provide any insight into what they were thinking? I’m tired of limbo and I’d like to know any information! Congrats to everyone who has made a decision!
  5. Hey! I emailed them to ask for updates a few weeks ago. They told me that they had already contacted their shortlist. You can email Dr. Hatzaki and ask and she will let you know what the department decided in case you might have missed an email from them!
  6. Has anyone made any final decisions!? If so, what did y’all choose!?
  7. Did anyone receive an offer of admission to AAMW at UPenn? If so, did you accept yet?
  8. To the UMichigan IPAMAA acceptance, how did the notify you? If you don’t mind sharing?
  9. Has anyone heard from University of Michigan yet? It looks like Classics and IPAH have released some news but History of Art and IPAMAA are still quiet.
  10. I have noticed that a lot of the combined programs are on a different schedule from departmental programs. I think it’s because it’s easier for a single department faculty to meet up and discuss decisions versus the faculty from two or three different departments need to meet up and discuss decisions. At least that’s how one program described it to me and it makes sense.
  11. This actually eases my anxiety a bit. I was hoping to have a final answer by now so I could breathe! I got an email today from the department saying I’m on the waitlist at UPenn. They usually (in past years) only admit two students per program/per concentration so I assume they can’t have a tone of people of the waitlist because there are not a ton of spots to begin with. I wish I knew how many were waitlisted or where I ranked on the list. My heart can’t take the suspense much longer. 😅
  12. Has anyone been admitted off the waitlist? How often does that happen? How many people are usually waitlisted if there’s only two spots?
  13. Did anyone apply to University of Cincinnati? I saw an interview on the results page. Did anyone else get an interview yet?
  14. Outside of interviews, has anyone heard from AAMW?
  15. How many UChicago applicants were rejected from the PhD but referred to the MA? The results page has quite a few specifying this. Is that a standard practice for most/all applicants that were not accepted, a waitlist type decision, or exactly what it sounds like - referring competitive applicants that perhaps weren’t as qualified for the PhD but could get into the MA. I imagine it is less of a financial commitment to admit considerably more MA students with varying funding offers than admitting a fully funded PhD candidate. I guess I’m simply asking if it’s a scam or something competitive that is worth considering?
