  1. Hey everyone. I am happy for everyone that got it. For those who didnt get it, trust me when I say that it does not reflect your true capabilities. I have objective proof (over the course of 3 years) that the sshrc is largely based on subjective preferences and the political environment. I am currently appealing, not because I hope to get the postdoc, but to point out how insanely subjective and unfair the process is. The fluctuations in my scores from year to year make absolutely no sense, considering that the project remained the exact same. And these fluctuations are not small, but big.
  2. This week we will know!
  3. Yes its normal. You cant take a tt job while being a sshrc postdoc. The postdoc is considered a full time job so its against their policies. But if you do get a tt job you should def take it over the sshrc; since it is so difficult to get a tt job these days. The postdoc is only for 2 years whereas the tt job is permanent.
  4. I replied but it needs approval to be posted _ i guess thats because i included a link.
  5. "In addition to the increase in award values, Budget 2024 proposed to increase the number of scholarships and fellowships provided, building to approximately 1,720 more graduate students and fellows benefitting each year, and to streamline the various tri-agency scholarship and fellowship programs into one talent program." https://www.canada.ca/en/innovation-science-economic-development/news/2024/05/government-of-canada-announces-details-of-increase-in-award-values-for-federal-scholarships-and-fellowships.html I dont think they awarded more awards to the nserc postdoc applicants from what I saw.. they might maintain the regular success rate of around 20%. Who knows.
  6. Does anyone know what they mean by "timely completion" of phd? Do they mean 4 years, or like a reasonable timeframe like 4 to 5 years or more depending on the specific thesis?
  7. Does anyone know if they increased the success rate as promised in budget 2024?
  8. Yeah it does. However not a lot of people decline. Offers of alternate awards are made from july to september (they do not specify the exact date or month)
  9. Yes, the limit is probably still January, I dont think they would change this. But they do make some changes from year to year.. this year they asked for more things in the CV (such as funded research) and contribution list (best contributions, relevant exp)
  10. You can postpone until December 2025 or January 2026. I am not sure of the exact date but yes you can postpone. Not more than that though.
  11. Hoping the same for you. I know how stressful and nerve-wracking it is. Fingers crossed. 🤞
  12. This is the only active forum on sshrc - wiki academia used to be, but no more. What committee are you in?
  13. Usually around the last 2 days of february, 27 or 28 feb. It is my third and last time applying.
  14. Yes the gov increased it in April 2024. The winners in feb this year were lucky and got 70k instead of 45k (per year).
  15. Your project is either committee 1 or committee 2.. alot of people are in this situation, between two or more disciplines. I guess you have to choose if your project is more architecture (fine arts) or history.
  16. Those are the postdoc committees. These are the doctoral ones: https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/apply-demande/background-renseignements/doctoral_committees-comites_doctorat-eng.aspx
  17. Did you first win the super-sshrc by any chance? That might be why you are not on this list. This list is the original regular sshrc winners.
  18. Oh really? Why do you think that is? Did you win the SSHRC award at the same time as all the others?
  19. https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/results-resultats/recipients-recipiendaires/index-eng.aspx The awards recipient page.
  20. 2022: 630 phds and 150 postdocs 2021: 657 phds and 182 postdocs 2020: 530 phds and 160 postdocs 2019: 540 phds and 160 postdocs. Couldnt find the page for 2018 phds, but in 2018 there were 151 postdocs. I am just wondering if next year it is going to be the same.
  21. I highly doubt they will award more awards above the decided caps of 477 and 130.. I understood that disclaimer to mean that this is the list of original winners, some names might have changed.. but the caps are fixed. There might be 1 or 2 declines in the postdocs still because people couldnt defend on time. These numbers are the lowest ever. It is like they raised the amount of the awards at the expense of award numbers.
  22. Hey everyone. The list of winners has been posted and only 477 awards were awarded. 130 awards for the postdocs. These numbers are very low compared to previous years. Anyone know why this happened? What about budget 2024?
  23. Committee 3. Third time. I came so, so close last time. I just hope it is not a "lottery" as I've heard a few people say.
  24. Hopefully they award more awards this competition (as promised). Also hoping they are consistent with their scoring..
  25. Has anyone received an alternate yet?
