Unfortunately, it seems pretty unlikely with your current stats :(( PhD programs within the USA typically want a minimum GPA of 3.0 (the average is closer to 3.5, and R1 Universities demands even higher). Also, being an international student can dramatically decreases your chances of being accepted, even if you have a 4.0 GPA. Is the 1.5 years of research calculate into FTE? Or did you work part-time? Research-focused US Universities typically want a minimum of 6 months FTE (but again, the average is much much higher). If I was you, I would first try to join a post-bacc within the USA, ideally at the university I wished to join for my PhD. Building connection with students and faculty is the best way to get your foot in the door, plus it increases your research experience! Good luck and keep us updated!
