I’m applying to phd programs this fall with an interest in sound-based media, electronic music & urbanism since the 1950s in Japan and Germany. I’m applying to: UCSB film & media studies Brown Modern Culture & Media Maybe: Buffalo Media Studies (but it seems very practice based) & UCSD I’m not familiar at all with research being done in asian/ cultural /urban studies departments so I thought perhaps someone might recommend a faculty or department that specializes in these areas - thanks!

i lived in three different flats in goettingen and would be happy to offer tips on specific places. I'd stay away from places near the train station - although the rent is cheap, i had very noisy neighbors and lots of problems there. My single room with a kitchen at Studentenwohnheim Albrecht-Thaer-Weg was really nice, clean, quiet, affordable and just a few minute bike ride from the uni sports complex, for which a membership is like 5 EUR/month. hey! I am interested in possibly working for UNESCO myself. It really depends what's you're interested in, but you can check their available positions online and scan the requirements. I'm thinking of applying to the program "Governing the Large Metropolis" at sciences po next year in Paris with the goal of focusing on housing issues. It's an MA that can be catered toward later PhD studies and includes 6 months working for an international governing authority (perhaps an internship @ UNESCO?)
