  1. Welp. My gut says soft rejection too. I was looking at my SOPs. So Cringe 😂 . Next time I will have 3-4 people read it
  2. Sorry if this is a dumb question. Do some programs process applications in batches...maybe depending on the subfield? For example, I have not heard anything from UW-Madison or Syracuse (some people have claimed acceptance in the latter earlier today). I'm just trying to figure out if the radio silence is soft rejection or not being on top of the queue lol
  3. Claiming UMich rejection. I got that exact same email
  4. I admire that you take your research interests seriously when you could just settle for a simpler topic that doesn’t require much funding. You will find the right place! I applied to AU, GWU, Indiana-Bloomington, Syracuse, UMichigan, Pittsburgh & UW-Madison. So far it seems like a few people have heard back from UW-Madison. Someone else said that they are still processing applications. Don’t know what to expect. No formal offers/rejection yet. Anxious asf lol
  5. I’ve learned that the hardest part is articulating your research interests. I was intentionally a bit ambiguous with mine. I still tried my best to link them with the interests of certain faculty members. Hopefully it won’t backfire. Haven’t heard anything from any schools yet. Kudos to you for aiming high and applying for very competitive schools Did you apply for any “safety” programs? Best of luck!
  6. Applied for AU but IR department. Seems to be one of the few programs with an independent IR department. Also, has anyone applied for Syracuse?
  7. Do these programs usually send decision emails in the late afternoon/evening? If not, that's another day not knowing lol hard to stay distracted with something else.
  8. Were you interviewed?
  9. Oh okay. Yep, no invitation for interview (IR) subfield. So I suppose UW-Madison is my first rejection. Portal hasn’t changed since I applied.
  10. It sure is a nerve-wracking process. Didn't even know what being "waitlisted" meant before lurking here. Best of luck, friend!
  11. If I haven't heard back from UW-Madison, I'm prob toast, right?😂 💀
  12. Hello everyone, I recently earned an MA in International Relations with a regional concentration in Eurasia and wrote my thesis on the Challenges of Peacekeeping in Nagorno-Karabakh. I want to pursue a Masters Degree in Russian/Eurasian studies with a concentration in Central Asian Economic Development. My main weakness is that I have no college-level Russian. I have spent multiple summers in Tashkent with my partner’s Karakalpak family (so I didn’t interact with others in Russian all the time) ĐšĐŸŃ€ĐŸŃ‡Đ”; I think my Russian is passable, but not that good (at all!) Some programs, such as Georgetown’s CERES program, ask, "All applicants must include evidence that they have completed the equivalent of at least three years of college-level study of a language of the region relevant to their proposed course of study.” I don’t think I meet that requirement
should I bother applying? Is the language requirement strict in these types of programs? Thank you all!
