  1. I went to a undergrad school that, like Yale, only offers need-based aid. In this case the packages are kind of non-negotiable, though I’m sure you could ask for more money within reason. Essentially they have formulas where they take you and your families income and assets and determine from that how much you’ll pay. If, for example, you work minimum wage job, your parents are poor working people and you dont own any property, you pay nothing or close to nothing. If your dad runs a hedge fund and you guys own many homes, chances are you’ll pay Full Tuition. If you’re in between, your offer will be in between those extremes.
  2. Would you put off MFA for a Fulbright? I had an interview with an MFA program I like (waiting to hear back). But I just got news I am a finalist, and have an interview next week for an open study Fulbright. The project I proposed is kinda cool, western europe, learning about ceramic painting at an interdisciplinary ceramic and glass research center. at this point, I haven't gotten either offer haha so maybe I'm counting my chickens. just curious since they are so different.
  3. cant know for sure, but I've seen some vcu and cmu interviews in this thread so far. it could be bad news if you haven't hear anything. can't remember seeing anything about upenn and uconn so that's good!
  4. I just found this subsection of gradcafe, so this might only be helpful for anyone applying for next year's cycle. Anyone considering becoming a curator straight out of an MA art history program, or transition from MA to selective PhD programs, should really consider the Williams College MA program. Esp of you are low-income/POC. But it really is a good program for anyone. I went to Williams as an undergrad for art history and studio art. The program is small, very well-funded, and--with the right attitude--a feeder school to the NYC art world. I was in a lot of grad-level classes and made friends with many of the grad students. They all have impressive jobs, esp for being right out of school. The Whitney, the Met, ICA Boston, Dallas Museum, Mass MoCA, Sotheby's. One's at Harvard PhD. These people all graduated in 2022, so it hasn't been long. The program is not for everyone. It's really small, the setting is very tight-laced and boring, the college is almost exclusively an undergrad institution. In the program's favor: incredible alumni network, great museums in the Berkshires, a built-in internship at one of said museums, they build in travel, the location is actually idyllic/stunning if you're into mountainous, rural New England (I am). Williams has a lot of $$$$$$$. I studied there debt-free and so did many of the working-class graduate students. I wanted for nothing when I was there tbh, besides maybe a fun bar to go to.
  5. Anyone else interview with WashU St Louis?
  6. Seems like I was wrong about it being today re: Yale. Bets are off! I’m praying it’s tomorrow.
  7. welp, just for fun, who else thinks Yale is sending invites/rejections today? good luck to everyone with interviews, and those still waiting!
  8. Had my interview for Sam Fox and I thought it went well. Anyone else? also my friend just got an interview request from Alfred, so those are going out now.
  9. I’m not in the program but I live in Pittsburgh/know some of the profs/the guy I dated just finished the program. I think our initial vibe read is accurate, but it seems like a program anyone can really grow in. Pittsburgh has a lot to take advantage of from what I know. The only reason I didn’t apply is because I want a change of scenery.
  10. my bet's on feb 4th for some reason
  11. just got an interview request from Sam Fox
  12. Hey friends. Just submitted to Yale and Wash U last night. It's my first time applying. Good luck to everyone!
  13. Hey! first time applying, though been thinking about it a while. Finished undergrad 2 years ago at a liberal arts college in MA. im really only considering wash u, northwestern, and Yale. All for $ reasons. Yales need-based aid which is how my undergrad was and that worked great for me. The other two have generous packages. I toured wash u the other day and was impressed! anyone know anything about northwestern? it’s the one that’s hard to pin down for me rn but full tuition plus $45k a year stipend is serious support.
