Hey everyone, I’m deciding between three Statistics PhD offers: Iowa State University (ISU), University of Florida (UF), and University of South Carolina (USC). My goal is to go into industry, preferably in the finance or tech field. Here’s what I’m considering: ISU: Strong reputation in statistics but located in Ames, which I’m not too excited about. UF: Offers the most funding (not significantly higher), decent location, highest rated university, but I’m unsure about industry connections. USC: Nice place to live, but I’m not sure how it compares in terms of reputation and job prospects. In terms of alignment of my research interests with faculty it's pretty even for me. I’d love to hear from anyone with insight into these programs—especially regarding industry placement and overall experience. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, I wanna do a PhD in Statistics in the US, but since I am an international I have no idea which schools are reasonable for me to apply to. So here's my profile: Undergraduate Institution: Random German university Major(s): Applied Mathematics and Computer Science GPA: 3.4 (I had a chronic illness in the first 2 semesters, otherwise about 3.9. Should I add this in my personal statement?) Graduate Institutions: Double Masters at random German university (1st year) and top 300 US news (2nd year) Major(s): Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, Mathematics with focus on Statistics GPA: 3.7 and 4.0 Got an A in all statistics or probability theory classes. Did not take GRE. Research and Teaching experience: 3 years of software development for a professor, therefore also involved some research in the stats area 1 year RA on Bayesian Statistics and Operations Research. Currently writing on a paper where I would be 2nd author. 1 year TA in US, teaching business mathematics Currently working on a Master's thesis that involves bootstrap and model validation Awards/Honors/Recognitions: Fellowship for academic performance relative to peers in the degree program (80%) and social engagement (20%) Chancellor’s Graduate Student Support Award (They give this to everyone, but on the website it says it's performance based) Letters of Recommendation: Professor I worked for as a SWE and RA, should be very strong Professor I took most of my theoretical statistics and probability theory classes with Professor I took a lot of Machine Learning and Data Science classes with Courses: Theoretical Statistics, Probability Theory, Measure Theory, Regression, Time Series, Computational Statistics, Stochastic Processes, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Science and other standard pure/applied Math and CS classes Volunteer work: Student member of the department's quality improvement committee Student member of the appointments committee for applied computer science Other: First generation student Certified by the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK), equivalent to DQR/EQR Level 4, demonstrating expertise in mathematical modeling, software development, and technical problem-solving I'm currently 22 years old if that matters Does anyone have any recommendations on which type of schools it would be reasonable for me to apply to?
