If you are looking at one of the colleges in the UP (Mi Tec, NMU, LSSU) Then you generally should get a car. even in the college towns it is still pretty rural. I needed to go to Chicago for a conference and I had to search for someone willing to drive to a train station downstate because there are NO PASSANGER TRAINS IN THE UP!
