i have still yet to hear from columbia. what in the world? why aren't they sending me a rejection?!?

I am seriously tempted to just email Columbia and ask if they have my decision yet. Except I feel like that would be super annoying.
People do this all the time. I say do it! And then tell us what they say!

A Harvard rejection post is up...
-
Yeah, I'm still waiting on Emory too.
Emory's about to make me have a nervous breakdown. The previous poster was right - rejections come some time after acceptances. I just need to go ahead and know now. Like Right.Now.

I feel so dejected. I feel like I'm in for such a long month of so much disappointment. Granted, I'm 0-3 and I applied to many programs, but I just can't help but think that I'm in for an abyssmal spring.

My sincere sympathy, and I'm sure I'll be joining your sorrow soon! Though I imagine you'll be getting good news in these next two weeks.
Thank you, Emerson. You are very sweet

I feel as if I'm already buried under the avalance. Three rejections in as many days has me reeling...

Any word on Northwestern or when their decisions will (or in the past have been) be released? Im dying over here.
Per the results page, it looks like mid February is when we'll start hearing from Northwestern...
Could be worse!

I spoke to one of the graduate administrators at Georgetown today and their admissions board will be meeting in the first week of February, with responses going out soon after....not too long now!
thanks for this! so exciting!

is there any one (or more) specific school(s) that is NOTORIOUS for waiting down to the wire to notify applicants?
-
Isn't this extremely and uncharacteristically early for a decision in history?
-
I almost started this thread myself. I have gotten 3 of these, 1 approximately every 2 weeks since the deadline for submission. I think this is a way for them to lull you into a false sense of security and then BAM you get an email that slaps you in the face with a rejection. This is what I am expecting anyway. I wish some other schools took the initiative to update you on what they actually have and what they don't. It would make this process a little less complicated. Whatever, Duke is different.
I know, packerboy, I always get so excited when I see the Sender of the email and then I'm all disappointed like, "Meh...you've sent this to me more than I can count..." Sad Panda...

two possible reactions to my application. no words, only raw emotion:
or
omg, THIS!

Anyone that has applied to Duke, are y'all getting incessant emails saying the exact same thing? Mine always say this:
On November 28, 2010 we received your application to the Duke University Graduate School as follows:
Department/Program: History
Degree: Ph.D.
Term of Admission: 2011 Fall Term
Identification Number: xxxxxxxx
If you have already received notification from Duke University Graduate School of the decision on your application, please disregard this message.
In any future communication you have with the Graduate School, please provide your full name as you provided it on your application and the name of the department and degree program to which you have applied.
The purpose of this message is to inform you of which supporting materials we have received. Please recall that we do not require you to send in official copies of transcripts until such time as you are offered admission, thus, any transcripts marked as received and unofficial require no further action from you at this time.
Other items that are still missing should be sent to us immediately. The completion of your file is your responsibility, and delays in our receipt of missing information may impact the review of your application. Although there may still be documents missing from your file, it has been sent to the department to begin the review process.
Please do not respond to this message. We understand that you plan to send us missing documents, and thus there is no need to call us or to send us a message to that effect. We will send updates to you periodically to inform you of supporting documents that have been received for your application and those that have not. During the admissions season, we receive hundreds of email messages every day. Since we must focus our efforts on processing applications, we will not respond to emails requesting information on the status of applications. If you have questions about your application that are not answered in our periodic updates to you, you may call our office (no collect calls accepted, however) between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. (Eastern U.S. Time) weekdays at (919) 684-3913.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have sent documents/test scores to us recently but they are indicated as not received in this message, please wait until you receive our next status update prior to contacting us. Due to the large volume of mail we have received recently it has not been possible for us to log all the information into our database. We may have received information that has not yet been recorded for your application.
==============================
And then it goes on to say they've received all my materials. But seriously, I've gotten like FOUR of these. Huuuuh?

Probably...."Oh honey, we're very happy that you're trying so hard but you don't have a drop of diversity, you're 23, and you definately didn't buy nice enough stationary paper to put your personal statement on..."
we were supposed to put our personal statements on resume-like paper? um, yeah, pretty sure i didnt do that. i must admit, i did contemplate it, but i figured it would look too pretentious. shit!

anybody know of any history programs that offer rolling admissions?
seems as if the respective department's websites are mum.

Wiconsin will be the first to notify. Based upon previous years entires, we could hear as early as the end of this month! And boy am I nervous!

-
OMG, that article! I feel dizzy.
-
So it's January. We should start hearing back in a month, right? If not, I'm going to find a high limb and a short rope.
