I reached out to the professor I applied to, asking for any updates regarding my admissions. I was invited to an open house at the start of the month and was told that I would receive news about my acceptance into the program within 1–2 weeks. I sent my professor a thank-you email two days after returning from the open house and received a response just over two weeks ago. In their response, they thanked me for attending, expressed appreciation for my email, and mentioned that they like seeing applicants whose research interests align strongly with the program. They also said they would keep me updated on the admissions process as decisions were being finalized. Additionally, they asked if I had any updates on my end before they made any final decisions, as they wanted to have the most up-to-date information. I responded to their email that same day but had not heard back in two weeks, so I sent a follow-up email asking if any decisions had been made. They then informed me that the program has already made some offers and that I am currently on the waitlist. Since they had the lowest priority in this admissions cycle, additional offers will depend on responses from those who have already received offers. So far, no one has officially accepted or declined, so the situation remains uncertain. They will provide an update once more information is available and asked me to keep them informed if anything changes on my end. In the meantime, they plan to follow up with admitted students to encourage decisions. I don’t know how to feel about this. I really like the program, the faculty, and my experience visiting for the weekend. Please share any thoughts or suggestions with me. I am trying to remain hopeful, but I feel uncertain. This is for a PhD program, and I directly emailed the professor I am applying to.
