  1. Hi guys! So here's my situation: I'm going into my 5th year of my BA majoring in psychology at UBC. My GPA is competitive (4.1 overall and even higher if only counting my last two years/psych only). I'm not in honours but I have 2 years of research experience in labs (in every position) plus experience project managing. I just landed a year-long directed studies (supervised research project) with the PI of the lab I'm currently in as well. My goal is to also attend a conference with that project and apply for a tri-council agency research award (even though I'm probably not gonna get it). I'm doing my GREs in a couple of weeks and I'm predicting I'll get higher than average verbal, average quant, and higher than average analytical. I'll have 3 decent-to-strong recommendations from research supervisors as well, and I'm sure I can write a successful personal statement. So with all that in mind, I'm wondering what my chances are of getting into a social psychology program, preferably at UBC or SFU, but also places like UVIC, UOA, UOC, and UOT. I've been stressing about this for as long as I can remember, and I would appreciate any insight I can get from actual grad students. I'm also worried since I have to be reaching out to labs in a month to ask if they're taking any grad students for the next cycle, but I wouldn't have started my directed studies at that point. Do PIs care about that or will they just want me to have that experience by the time I graduate/join their lab? Thanks!! :)
