I got an admission letter on the second week of Mar from one of the schools that I applied to. I sent the secretary an email asking about financial information. She said that it would take a couple pf weeks to make financial decision. It has been already 2 weeks since I talked to her, but I have not heard from her yet. I also sent an email to the professor who I would work with if I decided to attend, but no news yet. I am aware that last week was spring break which might be one of the reasons why it might take longer. While it was a relief to hear positive news from one last school, waiting for admission decision is one thing and wating for financial decision is another. I applied to a 5 years program changing my major and not having research experience. What is the chance of getting financial asistance? I wonder if only those who have research experience or did get a MA degree in the similiar (if not the same) are eligible for such assistance. I am an international on top of that. (I am well aware that American citizens and permanent residents are the first priority) Time only can tell, but I am not sure how much longer it will take for them to let me know and want to ask around.

Thank you, everyone, for your comments and thoughts! I really appreciate it and I still welcome more comments on it! I hope all things work out for me. Learning or discover what I might not be that into at this moment could turn out to be the one that I really want. Who knows! I have not started working with the professor yet. However, although his current area of research is not in line with my interests, I hope it is not something completely far away from what I might want to do. I am not sure why the professor that I mentioned in my essay did not end up being my mentor, but I might end up working with him or some other faculty members later on. I will keep my fingers crossed!

I got an admission letter from the school, but the professor that I will work with is not the one that I mentioned in my statement of purpose. I looked into his information, but the area of research does not match with my interests. I am switching my major from education to social science and I do not have any research experience yet. (I got my BA and Med degrees in education) Therefore, I got rejection letters from the rest of the schools that I applied. The program that I was admitted is 5 years term (part of MA and part of PhD) I am hoping to get financial aids and they will let me know in a couple of weeks. Here is my question. Can I transfer to another school right after getting a part of MA? No one would know exactly how many credits would be transferred to the school that I might transfer in the future, but how does this work in general? What should I do about this at this point or right after beginning of the program in the fall for "efficiency" ? Don't get me wrong. I am glad to be accepted because it will allow me to build my background knowledge and research experience in the field as long as decent financial aids is provided.

funding info in admission letters is not clear

I got an admission letter, but it did not say anything about finaicial information. I sent the graduate secretary an email asking about it and she said that she would let me know in a couple of weeks. Should I say "hello" to my professor (mentor)? Is it OK for me to ask about financial information directly? -
Which professor was the rejection letter from? Did they say anything in the letter other than "sorry"?

I got an admission letter from Texas Tech this morning in Korean time. (it was probably Wed morning or afternoon in Texas) However, it did not say anything about financial aids and I sent an email asking about it. I hope it is OK to ask and they will provide me full scholarship as I indicated that I want to be a RA.

Has anyone heard from The University Of Denver? According to the website, they invite applicants for an interview some time in Feb. It is almost 16th of Feb. I wonder if I should consider myself being rejected because I have not gotten invitation from them yet.
-
That's exactly how I feel! Should we call and see what is going on?

Hi, all! U of Michigan and U of Wisconsin are the only schools that I have heard from so far. I check The Result almost on a daily basis, but have not seen any post there while there seems to be many posts for some other programs or majors. I wonder if the applicants who applied the program have not posted their outcome(including invitation for interview or wait listed) even though they heard from the schools. Or I wonder if the schools just have not decided who to accept and reject yet.
-
The University of Michigan is the only school that informed me the result of admission. (the emoticon tells you what they said to me in email) I have not been in touch with the rest of schools though. It began to make me wonder what is going on because people have been posting their results of admission. I know it is just beginning of Feb and I need to wait for a while. But how much longer am I supposed to wait to find whether I am accepted or rejected? Is 15th of Apr about the last day I need to wait to know?

Checking application status from websites

The only university that I heard from is U of Michigan (rejected). I wonder if I should check my application status to see if I am accepted, rejected, or wait listed. Do we need to do that or what we need to do is wait? I am asking you guys this to see if there is any way that I can find the result of admission. I can't wait to hear from them For the most part, the program that I applied to is under Human Development and Family Studies though. -
Anyone applied Human Development and Family Studies?

I applied to UT-Austin as well as an international applicant. I wonder if my quantitative score on GRE and not having reserch experience hurt my admission since I have not been contacted by the school for an interview. What did they ask you? How long was the interview? Do you have research experience? Not every school has made decision yet, but it makes me nervous and discouraged although I should not. I submitted one of papers I wrote when I was in Med program (about 10 to 15 pages long) and I also wonder it that was a mistake. I did not use any data analysis (statistics involved) when I was in the program. -
Hi! I wonder if this is the spot to post what I want to ask and talk about. If not, please direct me where I should post this! (I kind of think my interests fit into sociology as well) I applied the program called Human Development and Family Studies (PhD) for fall 2011. Each school has a slightly different name of the program, but my focuses are parenting, relationship, and regulation of emotion. I applied 10 schools and two of them are Developmental Psychology under the Department of Psychology. Some of the schools probably have already begun reviewing the application materials because the deadlines were Dec 1st and Jan 1st. Some schools are probably still waiting and accepting application materials because the deadline is 15th of Jan. I would like to hear from those of you who applied the program for fall 2011 if you have heard from them for an interview or decision. I wonder if there is any place for those who applied such program and whose focuses are alike can discuss in here. Also, I would love to hear from those who are already attending. I am changing my major from education to Human Development and Family Studies or developmental psychology field and curious to know what your experience has been like at the program. The most universities I applied would offer some kind of financial aids if admission is offered I believe. I wonder how the funding is like in general or for next year. How did you prepare for an interview and what kind of question did they ask you? (I guess I could ask current graduate students once they contact me for an interview, but it would be also nice if you could share with me or anyone who might be interested in. Looking forward to hearing from you! P.S. I can’t find ranking for Human Development and Family Studies though I could find ranking of Developmental Psychology. Therefore, I assume “the usual big names” and well-known schools should work the same. Please correct me if I am wrong and let me know if any of you know about this.

I thank those again who took time to read and to give some advice! I do appreciate it! The professor from the Department of English got back to me saying she would write one for me. Thank God, what a relief! Now I just have to figure out what to do with one who has been in Germany and won't be back till the middle of January. I asked the universities if she could submit it by email due to the circumstance. They wants us to mail it along with their own form, but I wonder if they could get it by email for now and I could send it when she comes back to the States. Getting a letter from a supervisor is good I think, but it is just not a good time for me to do so because they might look at me someone who can quit any time the admission is offered. (It depends on the company you work for, but it is not going to be good at least in my case)

Hi! I can’t believe how desperate I have become due to the process. I have another question. One of them sent me an attached file (her letter of recommendation) saying I could send it out, but it is written in a regular paper. In addition, the school has a separate form and it is their own which should be submitted along with her letter. I just sent an email asking if they could give an extension, but at the same time I wonder if I could ask whether it would be OK to send the attached letter because of the circumstance. Does it sound awful to ask as an alternative? I was in her graduate class not realizing she was in a TA position rather than a professor until recently I do not have much choice at this point, but I wonder if it would hurt my application. She currently works for a particular state Department of Education (I should not say what state) as a Director of Accountability Systems and Reporting. Does she hold some kind of authority as a recommender? I have been out of school for a while and having a hard time finding recommenders. Thank you in advance!

Thank you all for your advice! Keeping my finger crossed!

Thank you, adaptations!

Hello! How is your application process going? I finally got emails from the two recommenders who had not been in contact with me for over 2 weeks. One said that she is in Germany and would not be back till middle of Jan saying the only thing she had is the access to the internet. (Everything else is at her office in the States) The other one said she would not be able to submit it till second week of Jan without giving specific reasons told me to remind her. Two universities need their letters by Jan1st and on needs to be mailed and the other one needs to be submitted through online. Here is my question. Should I talk to the Department about the situation while searching for someone else who could write one for me? I sent an email to a couple of other professors hoping I will be able to submit my LORs by the deadlines, but have not heard from them yet and who knows if they ever. Also, I am getting annoyed by one school because they never have gotten back to me even once regarding what materials are missing and what they have received. I submitted the application over 5 weeks ago and requested my other materials such as my GRE score, transcripts and etc right away. I waited about 2 weeks, but because I never heard from them, I called them 4 times so far (once a week from first week of December, second, third and today) What they said to me was they have not had a chance to look at them the first, second and third time I called them. I called them today in the morning and what happened is that the person who works for the process won't be back till the first week of Jan. The deadline is Jan 1st. Has anyone faced with such circumstance? What am I supposed to do? VERY FRUSTRATING!

Because the deadline is coming soon, I just sent an email to a professor who taught lingustic class in graduare level, which is nothing to do with the program I am applying to (Human Development and Family Studies) No one knows what she will say or she may not even bother to reply. I decided to do so because it would not be incomplete at least and they would look at my application materials. However, do you think the letter from the professor (lingusitic course) would not do any good? Or would the admission committees look at it as irrelevant?

I am applying to 10 schools which is more than I previously planned. My application is complete (maybe 6 to 7 schools) One of them is very supportive and more than willing. He got back to me in two business days saying he mailed or submitted the day he replied to me. However, I am trying to contact my other recommenders for 2 weeks. I sent them as a reminder 11th of December, but because I have not heard from them, I sent it again last Friday. I am going back to school which means I have been out of school for awhile. I can't ask my employers for the letters because they might look at me someone who could resign anytime soon not assuring being admitted to graduate program. Would the admission committes still look at the application although one or two letters of recommendation are missing?

Because I am changing my major from education to social science, I began to read and learn statistics. Now that I finished applying, I am trying to read journals and articles related to the research area I am into. However, my understanding of statistics is not good enough yet to comprehend them. How do you prepare for interview? I can't wait to hear from the schools whether I am accepted or not, I just want to know what the result is.
