Hey everyone. I'm applying to 16 programs (15 PhDs and one MA) in English Literature with a specialization in Modernism. I got a 1500 on the GRE (740 V, 760 Q) and a 730 on the subject test. My undergrad GPA is 3.8 with a 3.94 in my major, but I have an ugly D+ in French 102. Because I finished strong my senior year--including A's in Latin 101 and 102--I've decided NOT to address the D in my Personal Statement, but I'm afraid they might reject the app outright when they see that D (especially with most programs requiring proficiency in two languages). I have one great letter of rec and two okay letters on the way (one of which is from a Film professor outside of my major, but I took two upper level crosslisted classes with him).
PROS: Overall GPA, GRE scores, one great LOR
CONS: French, two okay LORs (one not in major), decent but not necessarily publishable writing sample
What do you think of my odds?
