  1. thanks for the responses--i'll be pondering over this over the next few weeks..
  2. most of my decisions have come in, and now i'm in a bit of a dilemma.. due to funding issues, my choice of schools really lies between getting an MS at Umass amherst or a phd at northeastern. i mostly applied to MS programs this year, with NEU being the only phd. the thing is, i don't know if i want to do a phd or not yet. it sounds interesting, but i dont have enough research experience to know if ill enjoy it enough to complete a phd program. my intention was to do an MS first and then pursue a phd if i felt it suited me the MS is not funded, but because i'm an mass resident, umass with living expenses is going to cost me about 40-50k for the whole degree. sounds cheap compared to other schools i know, but thats like all my savings from 4 years of penny pinching. on the other hand, as with most phd programs, NEU offers a full tuition waiver and stipend. UMass MS better reputation gives me the chance to find out if i want to do research or not before committing to a phd possible that i may be able to get an assistantship after i enroll NEU PhD guaranteed funding may save time if my ultimate goal is a phd? (if i get an MS from umass first and then decide to do a Phd, won't it take longer?) would probably get more attention as a phd student here than as a MS student at UMass id really appreciate any input you guys have. thanks!
  3. have you spoken with any professors from UNC? it might be a good idea to ask them about this. they might be able to tell you whether or not you should be concerned about funding after the first year
  4. i think theres still hope.. if the application deadline has been extended to the end of this month, there must still be some space left. good luck!
  5. i got the acceptance email today as well. applied way back in november. i guess they *are* doing rolling
  6. based on historical data, nyu results should start coming out this week. columbia usually would have started responding by now, but it looks like they've extended the MS application deadline. i'm guessing that means we'll be waiting until april
  7. wow 27k is a lot i think it also depends on whether it's a 9 month or 12 month assistantship
  8. they got admitted to the MS program? i know there are some PhD admissions, but i haven't heard of any MS ones yet
  9. i'm curious as to how all of you kept all your school info (gre scores, transcripts, application deadlines, links, emails, etc) organized during the application process i set up a local wiki for info like schools, deadlines, links; and a dropbox account for files like transcripts and my SOP. it worked pretty well for me. whatd you guys do?
  10. congrats! thats a great dilemma to be in
  11. thanks for the advice! i havent had the call yet, but ill let you all know how it goes
  12. weird. just got an email from columbia asking if i still wanted to be considered for the MS program (i applied to the MS program). did everyone else get this too?
  13. i have an phone interview with a prof for a research position this fall as an MS student. any thoughts on how to prep? thanks
  14. anyone attending the umass open house today?
