  1. Thanks for your input!!
  2. I'm still not sure yet.. It's certainly up there but I've just heard that I've been accepted to San Francisco State which is also in my top 3 but I'm still awaiting funding decisions from them. I'll definitely have a lot of thinking to do with I hear back about funding from SFSU. BUT it's such a great offer, I'm not sure if I'll be able to pass it up!
  3. I've just been accepted to San Francisco State and I'm ecstatic!! I've never been to SF before but I think I'd really love it. Does anyone know anything about the area SFSU is located in? Ideally, I'd love to live near the queer/lesbian area of town but would really love to not have a huge commute (and preferably by public transport).. Does anyone know how doable this is? Many thanks!!
  4. Holy Cow!! I was just offered a diversity fellowship at UT Austin. Full tuition waiver, $16,000 stipend, and health insurance!! Yay!!!! This is unbelievable!! I was starting to think that I would have to self fund grad school! Glad that's not the case!
  5. I didn't get into University of British Columbia, which was my top choice. So now I'm all depressed and sad. BUT I feel very fortunate to have many great options. This one just really sucks though.
  6. I'm still waiting on 3 programs too. One is a Canadian school and, I've heard, is apparently notorious for late responses! It's super frustrating because 2 of the schools I've yet to hear back from are amongst my top choices! I'm just so stressed out about this whole process and would really love to know where I'm living next year! Anyway, I think if I don't hear back by the beginning of next week, I'll likely email them and inquire about my status. It's mid March and I want to give my other programs a timely response, you know? Anyway, best of luck to you!
  7. I didn't apply to that specific program but I did apply to another program at Brandeis and was accepted via post. I'm not sure if the method of notification varies from department to department but it might be a university-wide thing to send out letters via post.. Hope this helps! Best of luck to you!
  8. Thanks so much, this is really helpful!! Best of luck to you!
  9. Does anyone know how loans work? I'm American and applied to one Canadian school (University of British Columbia). I haven't heard back from them yet but does anyone know if it would be possible to get American loans to study in Canada?? I know that I was able to get loans from American banks when I studied in London for a year but that was an exchange program through my American school... I've been wondering about this since UBC in my top 3! ANy help would be appreciated!!
  10. Oh yay!!!!!! Congrats!! I'm going to send you a PM!
  11. I like this thread! It's nice to hear everyone's stories.. But I'm going to tell the story of when I was notified that I had landed an interview with one of my top 3 schools. It had been over 2 months since my first applications were due and I was so sick of waiting to hear back. Honestly, I was at the point that I didn't even care if it was a rejection, I just wanted to hear something, anything! Anyway, it was Valentine's Day and I was on campus waiting around after work until my afternoon class. But I had decided to skip class because I wasn't feeling well and I didn't want to be on campus (3 years ago, there was a shooting at my school on Valentine's day and it was just a strange and sad day) so I headed home. When I got home, I laid down on the couch hoping some 30 Rock would take my mind off things. After a few episodes of 30 Rock, I randomly checked my email and there is was.. an email with something in the subject line about "Women's and Gender Studies"... I didn't even read the whole subject line because I was so impatient to read the email.. I read the first two sentences and discovered that I had been invited to an on-site interview!! I was in awe, I almost didn't even apply to this program because I was sure that I wouldn't get in. I jumped up and down, screamed a whole bunch and did a little happy dance with my dog (she was not amused that I had woken her up from her nap). I then yelled "ME!" and "they want ME!." Then I immediately called my sister and left her a (I'm sure, an insane) message. I then called my other sister who happened to be pulling up to my house. When she got to my house we did another little happy dance together and celebrated with Jimmy Johns.. hahaha. So I interviewed the next week and got an email two days later telling me that I was accepted! I was ecstatic! A few days later, I ran into my neighbor who lives above me.. When he saw me he congratulated me on getting an interview at Austin. Hahahah, he said that he was worried that something terrible was happening to me but in between my celebratory "oh my gods" and jumps he was able to make out "interview" and "Texas" and knew it was good news. Hahahaha.
  12. I'd recommend TOMS. They're SO comfortable... honestly, they're more comfortable than being barefoot. They're not super dressy but they come in a lot of solid colors that I think can pass for work appropriate shows. They also have wedges that are super comfortable too. AND when you buy a pair, they donate a pair to a child in need. It's really a great company! http://www.toms.com/
  13. Yay! I'm in at San Diego State!!!! I got a call from the graduate advisor (also my POI) congratulating me on my acceptance! I've also been offered a teaching assistantship!! Details are to follow in the mail. I'm so happy, this is in my top 4 AND it's such a relief to know that I have a funded offer!! I'm ecstatic!!!!
  14. Has anyone applied San Diego State?? In previous years they notified of acceptances in late Feb but I haven't heard anything from them yet.. I'm getting a bit anxious!
  15. Congrats!! I didn't know they had a dual program in WGS and music.. seems like a perfect fit for what you want to do! Yeah, I have a lot of thinking to do... I would love to have a dual degree but Brandeis is so expensive, even with the partial funding offered. Also, this is isn't the best fit for me research wise.. hmmm.
  16. When was the deadline?? If it was sometime in Feb or even Jan 15th, it might still be a bit early.. But I agree with SusieQ, I don't think it would hurt if you gently inquired! Good Luck!
  17. Woot, Woot! I've been accepted to Brandeis for the joint MA in Sociology and WGS.. It's very tempting since many of my professors have urged me to go into a "traditional" field (I have a BA in Women's Studies) for the sake of getting a job after grad school, hahahah. They mean well and I certainly agree with them. I've been offered a $9,500 merit scholarship but I'll still have to take out some massive loans to cover tuition and living expensives. Speaking of funding.. Any suggestions about how I should I go about asking about funding for the other offers I've received?? UT Austin said that they'll send out funding offers in the next two weeks BUT Towson and Southern Connecticut has been super vague about it.. I don't want to seem as though money is the only thing I care about BUT it is massively important. I'd appreciate any feedback!
  18. Wow, congrats!!!!!!! What wonderful news, Susie!! You must be thrilled! Is TWU your top choice??
  19. Wow, it's been rather quiet in here lately.. Good news, I heard from a few more schools... I was accepted to Towson University and Southern Connecticut State!! I still have 7 more schools to hear from, although I'm very pleased that all the news so far has been positive! However, each school has been so vague about funding.. I don't know how to go about asking about it.. Any suggestions? Thanks!
  20. Thanks, Morthia!!! It is such a relief to know I'm going to grad school. I'm thrilled! I was actually just in Austin this past weekend for the interview and I loved it! I was only there for two nights but I know I'd be happy there!
  21. I got into UT Austin!! I can't believe it! This is the first school I've heard back from, 9 more to go! No word on funding yet though..
  22. Yeah, I saw that.. I thought it was a bit strange. Well anyway, keep us updated if you hear anything form them!! Congrats on your acceptance to Notre Dame!
  23. Hi All, I don't think I completely belong in this thread as 9 out of the 10 programs I applied to are Women's and Gender Studies programs BUT I did apply to Brandeis' joint MA in Sociology and Women's and Gender Studies and have yet to hear back.. Has anyone heard from Brandeis' soc department yet?? And I've only heard back from one school so far... this wait is KILLING me!!!!!! Anyway, good luck and congrats on all your acceptances!!! -Fiona
  24. I hear ya, sister! Honestly, location is REALLY important to me too.. After living in a tiny little college town, I know I want to be somewhere with a lot of people (and more specifically a larger LGBT community). I kind of chose the programs I was applying to based on location but of course, the faculty and program itself is most important. BUT I want to end up in a city I know I'll enjoy. Also, I'll have to consider funding too. I just hope I get an offer from one of my top 4!!
