It sounds like you are taking it very well. I was really disappointed not to hear today, particularly since it looks like someone in California heard back from Italy today, but I can only hope to hear tomorrow. At this point, I'm not listening to the (well-intentioned) words of encouragement from my advisors and friends/family because I want to be prepared for bad news. While the Fulbright is pretty freaking huge, it's also something that we've lived without until now and life isn't going to end without it now. Best of luck to you, wherever you end up!

No news

I just noticed that, too, and have been totally over analyzing it...

So would it be really creepy if I set up a chair next to my mailbox and sat there, drinking wine, waiting for the mailman to come? This is driving me crazy! Should be in the next 30 minutes...
-
Ah! In that case: enter your information at the bottom, and when the spreadsheet refreshes it should position your row appropriately. (Oregonian stuck in Florida here - congrats again!)
-
Congrats! That's wonderful! Where do you live that you got it so quickly? To edit the spreadsheet, I believe, you just need to enter your information on your row and the spreadsheet will save/compute the information automatically.

Totally feel your pain. The all-knowing spreadsheet says an Italy person was notified today. My mail doesn't come until about 6:30 on any given day - why can't today be an exception?!?
-
Me? Full grant to Italy - but our letters were sent out Friday afternoon. I believe Norway2011 applied for a full to Norway.
-
Congratulations on the alternate position! Though this just means that you're going to have to wait even longer - rough. Since you're a fellow Miamian... what day was your letter postmarked? It looks like the spreadsheet is being strange again and I don't see you now but saw you listed the other day. I'm hoping if yours was sent out Friday, I'll also be getting my letter today. And... nevermind: I see that it was sent out Thursday, so I'll probably be getting mine tomorrow. Time to breath...

She didn't specify whether it was full and/or ETA. I'm a finalist for the full and specified as much in my email so she may have just been responding to that, but it looks like Italy has notified both at the same time in previous years. As she did not respond to my thank you email, saying that I would be working with the assumption that her email was not an April Fools' joke and that I would look forward to checking my mail next week... I'm hoping she was serious as well.

Will do! All of my friends and family are expecting that I'll hear in mid-May, and I'm keeping it that way until I get the news. If it's bad news, I want it to be able to sink in and for me to come to terms with it before everyone starts asking me about it. And good luck to you on your sleep, also - hope you hear soon!

Siena. I did a study abroad there in 2004 and have had a couple brief research stints there the last couple summers so I know what's in the archive - I just need to get back to use it! Congratulations on your finalist status - I'm sure Kefryn is waiting just about as impatiently as we are for our notifications. Let's keep in touch!

I'm in the history department, studying early modern Italian cultural and intellectual history. What about you? What's your research in Norway?
-
I also go to UMiami - were you at that strange reception for people that received an award, may receive a Fulbright, or may apply for something? I'm really not a fan of Miami, but I'm an Oregon girl and South Florida is pretty much the opposite of everything that I enjoy. But that keeps me out of trouble and limits the distractions from studying!
-
Seriously. I had to reread the email several times. This better not be a very, very cruel April Fools' joke. I don't know if I'm going to be able to keep any food down until I get the decision. (By the way, another West Coaster here - doing my PhD in Florida but I'll always be an Oregonian at heart.)
-
Italy people: I broke down and emailed Rachel Holskin today. Letters are being mailed this afternoon. Anyone else not going to be able to sleep for the next several days?
-
That sounds fascinating. I'm in history and look at a sixteenth-century literary academy in Siena that had a very high rate of female participation. I'm applying to conduct research for my dissertation and have a few different directions I could take it, but waiting to see if I'll even be able to do the research before I get anything set in stone.
-
Congratulations on making it this far! I'm also an Italy finalist so I guess we're competition at this point, but good luck nonetheless. And yeah, of course Italy takes its sweet time - nice when you're living there, in that mode of life, but so frustrating waiting to get there! What city/research topic are you looking at?
-
Yeah, and others heard at the end of May... realizing this is already four weeks after finalist notifications is definitely encouraging, though!
-
I know this is an old post so I don't know if you're active anymore, but when did you end up hearing? I've applied for next year and I'm finding all sorts of information on notification dates, etc, for the Fulbright but not this. Did you end up being awarded a fellowship?
-
Sorry. What country, if you don't mind me asking?
