I think it might just be painting + new genres.
has everybody who applied to UCLA got a notice already?
-
Truth. I have a friend who is currently attending a grad school and got to see all of the applicant work Apparently I made it in the students' top 10 favorites, but I didn't even get an interview. I told her I didn't get in, and her response was something along the lines of "On the other end of this process, I really have no clue how the admissions decisions are made." The right fit will be found, and most of being a working artist is rejection so may as well get used to it now.
Not that I don't cry myself to sleep.
I want to be completely honest here. I don't think not getting in to UCLA should make you question grad school at all - in my opinion.
I live in Los Angeles and went several times to their open studios to look at the work. It didn't think it was good or interesting - except for one incredible painting student. I also thought the students were homogenous - similar ethnicity and age.

I think last year everyone who was accepted was also interviewed..
does anyone know if USC always/sometimes/never interviews?
i have an upcoming deadline to accept or turn down another school's offer, and am hoping that USC just skips the whole time-consuming interview process.
thanks!

It's on everyone's prior to login, so it probably is just some administrative note for those deciding.
I have this too. but what does it mean?
-
Has anyone who applied to a non-painting concentration heard from UCLA?
-
How long are accepted students generally given to decide?
-
Waitlisted @ UCR.
-
Ditto but at a different school. Womp womp.
I hope they didn't send anything yet. I think i am over analyzing too.
I called the guy who I scheduled interview with last year and asked if they are doing interview this year!!!! He said I will be contacted if I am one of the finalists.
It is really depressing because I was on their waiting list last year and I expect this year to be better!
-
Waitlisted @ UCR. I'm totally not getting in anywhere for the second year in a row. I know this happens, but ballz.

It's all relative. Some people have entire other careers before going to grad school, some people are like you. Both seem to work.
im 23 and I went from high school to a B.A, then B.F.A to an M.A and now to an M.F.A with two residencies during the summer in between. I honestly love and hated it but its the only thing that works for me. people say you need time between degrees but for me that is what summer is for, traveling and life experience. I do feel at times it has really helped my work but also kept me in a very specific conversation. I'd always looked at it as my BFA was a break in between two critical studies degrees and an MA as a break between two art degrees. I feel at the moment i am in a perfect situation for an MFA but it seem that my staying in the school might be a hindrance to admission

Has anyone here either not heard from or been accepted to UCR?
-
I still haven't heard anything, and my application says that it is still being processed. Weird. I'll email them by Wednesday if I hear nothing.
I got an emailed rejection letter last week, as did a few other people in this board. I haven't seen any posts from accepted people, but Riverside takes such a small number of students I'm not surprised we haven't heard from any of them.
-
How about UC Riverside? Anything?
-
How were notifications sent out?
UC Irvine is conducting interviews this coming week.
-
Has anyone heard anything from UCI?
-
Has anyone been accepted to or not heard from UC Riverside?
-
Why are you guessing a rejection from UCI? I spoke with admissions and they said the first letters in the process would be going out this & next week.
Hey Everyone,
I've been a lurker for a while, but thought I'd say hello. I'm a video/performance artist. This process is so emotionally draining!
CCA-interviered
SFAI- interviewed
MassArts- interviewed
UCI-guessing a rejection
UCSD- holding my breath
CalArts- rejection
CMU- rejection
Although, I'm a bit older - 32 - I've been thinking that if I don't get a decent aid package I may wait and apply again next year. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts about that.
Congratulations on your interview Zaquon! It sounds like waiting it out worked for you.

Ditto.
I just heard from NYU, i was rejected...... they sent an email.
-
Has anyone heard from New Genres UCLA?
Thanks!
Nope, and I haven't read anything about anyone hearing from them, either.
-
Waaahhh CalArts was my safety and no interview.. Got an interview last year, though, and I fucked myself cuz of nerves and being sick. I really hope they just don't re-interview.
-
Interview with CalArts on March 10th. Woohoo! Just found out via email.
Was this for the art program? Congrats!
-
I just got an email to set up an ID at UC Irvine, which is most likely just so I can check my status once it comes in, but I'm hopeful haha And spoke w someone at UC Riverside, and decisions should be coming out next week.
Not sure if anyone else is even applying to these schools..

CalArts-Interview 3/10
Got it snail mail, and I 20 miles away from Valencia.
Did you apply to the art program? Last year I know they sent out emails, too..
& congrats!

Still haven't heard anything from UCI, neither an interview request nor a rejection, which is apparently a good thing for anyone out there who hasn't either (spoke with some current students). Still wait listed at UCR.. the 15th can't come soon enough, but sort of pumped on being wait listed at my top two choices. Just 5 more days of waiting!
