  1. If I applied on Jan. 9 and do not hear anything by ____ date (I'm thinking Feb. 20?), should I e-mail the program to ask them if they have received my stuff?
  2. I asked one of my professors (a part-time contract prof) for a letter of recommendation. She politely refused, saying that she doesn't have the time but otherwise would love to write one for me. I think that it should be a contractual requirement of ALL faculty members to write letters of recommendation if they feel that their students are deserving. The reason I feel this way is that suppose that ALL professors took the position of this one professor. No student would get a letter of recommendation. Therefore, no student would be able to apply for grad school and their futures would be cut short. Do you agree?

    Follow-Ups?

    FOUR QUESTIONS: 1) I mailed in my material on January 12 and still have not heard anything back - don't they usually send out acknowledgements when they receive the material? 2) If I mailed my stuff on January 12, and the university has rolling admissions, when should I expect a decision? 3) One of my schools said my transcripts and bank statement did not arrive. I e-mailed them confirming this and they never responded to my e-mail. So, I just re-mailed the material. Is this acceptable? 4) All of my mail was sent by "regular air mail," (I didn't send registered mail). OK?
